Made from a simple internet pattern. To make sure it would feed 40 people, I used 2 9x13" sheet cakes plus an 8" round cake on top. The rectangle were yellow cake, while the round cake was a chocolate mix.

Hand carved and sculpted, I did not use a shaped pan. The man is hand molded from chocolate clay, as well as thomas' face. This was my first experience with chocolate clay. Easy for chubby figures, not skinny super heroes (see my superhero cake). the icing sagged a bit, but I was pleased and so was the birthday boy. 8 hours to complete including baking and making my own icings and clay.

Last min. order. Triple Chocolate Chunk 3-D train cake covered with BC. Oreo wheeles and Kit Kat railroad ties. The kids are sure going to have black mouths after this one. lol. But the mom wanted an all black steam engine, the kid wanted green so this is what they got.

This is a cake I did for my son's 2nd Birthday. He went everywhere with his little Thomas train so it was a no brainer for the type of party he'd enjoy. I used Oreo cookies for the wheels and pretzel stix for the train tracks. One word of caution... do not use a confetti cake mix. I made a mistake and stood two layers of cake up on end for the cab portion of the cake. In the morning it had fallen over. I suspect the candy pieces weakened it. Good thing I took this picture before hand! Enjoy.

I decided to color a train track on the cake board before I covered it in clear contact paper. I cut a piece of paper the same size as the base of the cake to be sure that my tracks would be the right size. I wanted it to look sort of like a coloring book, I think it worked! :) Fun cake to do!

This was made for stepson for his third birthday who is crazy for Thomas! The railroad "tracks" are made from Stringers and the "grass" is desiccated coconut mixed with green liquid food coloring. The cake was choclate cake and the coconut seemed to go very well with the chocolate. The "trees" are coconut covered marshmallows with candy stick "trunks", which I think you can find at any grocery store. For any little ones that love Thomas, this is a quick and easy cake!

I made this cake for my nephews 3rd birthday party. Thomas is rainbow bit and the trailer is chocolate. Iced in buttercream (face is fondant)! HE LOVED IT and couldn't believe he had a "real" Thomas!! :)

my first all fondant cake, which gave me confidence to try more complicated projects. My nephew loved it - unlike the mothers who came to collect children who had just eaten all the red part and were bouncing off the walls!

I promised my son that I would send Thomas cupcakes to school with him on his birthday. We already had his party which was dinosaur. I only had green icing left and did not want to make new icing, so I had to come up with something using the green. I came up with these. Railroad tracks on each cake with a unique train sticker on each along with leftover chocolate rocks I had used on the dinosaur cake. I raided my son's sticker book to make toppers. He loved it and helped me place each one.

This is a cake that I made for a "Gotcha Day" celebration for my nephew. My nephew is adopted and Gotcha Day is when we celebrate the day we got him. He loves trains right now.

Wow this cake was something else to make. What a project. This is a double layer 10 inch round cake garage with some of Thomas's Friends. Thomas is made from 2 loaf pans pieced together. Thomas had a hard time staying together and that's why he looks like he's going down hill. My boy loved it though and that's what counts.

This could have been better. I should have made sure each section of the cake was level. Also, the grey buttercream looked too messy. But...I've never done pieces with royal icing so that was a good experience. Ladders, grill and decorations are all royal or color flow.

MMF with MMF/RK accents. Looked at so many pictures to come up with this--thanks to mconrey for the pan size/servings help:). Couldn't find cakewizard's ebay patterns:( I love the result--wished i had a few more hours on it:).... personalized it with the due date for the engine # and put the baby's home town on the ladder--the new parents were in from out of town for the shower and surprised by the cake "details"--fun.

Not some of my best work. I had ordered the Thomas Kit, but it still hadn't arrived by the day before the party. I used the instructions from the kit and improvised with fondant and candy...of course the kit arrived a half hour before the party started. I wasn't going to mess with it then! The kids seemed to like him...I think he's hideous...

To do the head part cut out from main cake - then fill hole with pieces cut out of bottom - "legs". Thought I had a better pic but can only find this one.

Here's my version of Thomas the Train. It was for my nephew's 1st birthday. He is decorated with buttercream and has a mmf face (see additional picture) and oreo wheels. The little caboose at the end, with crushed oreos for coal, was especially for the birthday boy. It was funny watching him enjoy his 1st birthday cake!

This is the same cake I also uploaded to the "Truck" category, but this is a different view (other side). I made a kit of this cake to give to my
Course 2 students (I teach the Wilton Method of cake decorating). The store I teach in sells my kits too. This takes a bit of effort with all the royal icing parts and color flow parts and to build the special raised base, but the results are worth the effort!
