My husband asked me to do a cake for him.  I had an extra box of yellow cake mix and some purple buttercream already made up, so I said "Sure".  He had a hard day working today unexpectedly and got called out at 4 in the morning.  I tried brush embroidery for the first time.  It's so easy.

This is the other side of my practice cake.  I tried the brush embroidery technique, but because I was too lazy to make fresh royal icing, the brush strokes disappeared in only a few minutes!  Next time I'll get it right!

Gosh, I never thought it would be so difficult making my own birthday cake but I really couldn't think of a design! So I tweaked a design in the Wilton Wedding Cake book and came up with a heart shaped cake iced in buttercream with brush embroidery flowers & leaves. I then wrote 25 and painted gold paint on top:) Can't wait to eat it!

Chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. Brushed embroidery was my first attempt. I wish I had used different colors and had a better brush. Any pointers?

I made this cake for a friend who is tea lover. The cake was covered with fondant, the flowers on the bottom are made from gumpaste. The flowers on the cake are done in the brush embroidery technique with royal icing.

Can you tell which Wilton level I'm in?  That's right!! Level 3.  I just wanted to practice the techniques we learned last night, as well as the upside down frosting technique.  I took the color combination from a ribbon (the upper border) I had bought for trim for my daughter's dress and never used.  I like the cake, but am happy it is only as big as it is, the lighter green just seems so drab.  The cake itself is an attempt at an egg nog flavored cake with cranberry filling.

Sponge cake with bavarian cream filling and IMBC flavored with a strawberry cream liquor.  Very tasty.

My first attempt at Ganache.  Just wanted to try different things. The back left is brush embroidery over poured ganache.  The back right is cornelli lace with a Royal Icing  plaque.  The front left is a fbct.  The front right is RI plaques.  The cakes are chocolate (made with a cake extender) torted twice & filled with one layer of Kahlua Rsbry Cream & one layer of the filling from the giant ding dong cake.  All borders are whipped ganache.  Not sure how they will taste but I had sooo much fun making them!

Here's my version of the flip flops on this site.  I loved the idea!  One was chocolate and one white cake with strawberry mousse filling.  Iced in buttercream with brush embroidery on top, which is hard to see in the picture.  They were for a little girl's 10th surprise party and were a big hit.  Thanks for looking!

Still practicing with MMF. This is an 8" 2 layer cake. I've used MMF to cover cake and board. My fondant did not go on smooth all the way around so I made the twisted MMF to go around the cake. The flowers were done with brush first time. My husband thinks the cake looks like a hat..this was not intentional! :)

For a 25th Anniversary.  Thanks to pancake for the inspiration from the  sage flowers cake.  The bottom tier is white chocolate with raspberry filling, the middle is french vanilla with bavarian and the top is lemon with lemon buttercream.

This is my first attempt at a two-layer cake (besides Wilton Class, almost 10 years ago-LOL!). Made for my friend's bridal shower - theme is daisies. 12" chocolate base layer, with chocolate Wilton soccer ball cake on top. Thanks for looking :)

I made this cake for my elderly neighbor. She has 6 kids, and doesn't know the last time she heard from any of them on her birthday. I wanted to make her something bright and cheerful, yet not too vibrant, but sweet. It is chocolate cake with all almond buttercream. It was my first time doing brush embroidery, vines, and reverse shell border. I am taking Wilton Course 3 now, and just learned these techniques!

Golden yellow cake with cheesecake pudding mix, 3" top is butter recipe fudge. Flowers are royal icing, birds and dots are colorflow, leaves on sides are brush embroidered, rest is buttercream.

Mother's day cake for my Mom.  Her passion was embroidery and needle work and I know she would have loved this cake. The top layer is Chocolate cake with Butter Pecan filling and the bottom layer is French Vanilla with Bavarian Creme filling. Sage Green MMF covers both layers with Fondant flowers and royal icing embroidery.  Thanks for looking.

Purse is made from chocolate cake. Covered with fondant and decorated with gumpaste. The fashionable wedge is made with gumpaste and decorated with the brush embroidery technique.

I was worried about using the brushed embroidery technique on whipped icing, but with a very soft touch, it worked.  I decorated with medium consistency buttercream icing with piping gel.  In some cases, I picked up the icing but it actually added to the effect. You can see my x's in preparation for a tiered cake, but I didn't assemlble for the pic because I have to transport it.

I made this for a bridal show.  The gumpaste flowers are all my doing.  I adore doing them.  The brushed embroidery was a bit more subtle than I intended, I should have made the cake a darker green.  It was prettier in real life than this photo shows.

This was a practice cake that I brought to a party and became an impromptu birthday cake.  French vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream covered in MMF with BC brush embroidery.  This was a practice cake in every sense-I need a lot of practice covering a cake, perhaps less BC underneath next time.  I was going for Tiffany blue for the color.

Mint chocolate chip cake with mmf and brush embroidery. I made this for my nephew's 17th birthday. I was trying to make it look like a hawaiian shirt but it didn't really come out the way I wanted. Inspired by cakes made by luv2cake and lisamarie182.

This was the first time I really tried the whole piping gel transfer and the embroidery look and I LOVED IT! It was alot of fun to do and was really pleased and quite surprised at myself to how nice it came out. I put the smash cake next to it and the invite there so you can see how I had to match them... the red came out better in the smash cake, but that's ok.

Wedding Shower Cake for my future DIL.  Violet Fondant with brushed embroidery BC icing work.  Fresh Flower Topper A LOT bigger than I ordered made, I think it would have looked a lot better with the smaller topper.

This was my first time to do a wedding cake.  I did it as a favor to help out a lady at my husband's work.  It turned out pretty, but there were some crumbs in the icing that I didn't notice until it was too late.  I don't think they stood out to anyone else, though.  I made the topper out of gumpaste and put super pearl and super gold dusts on it.  All I see are the flaws when I look at it, but the ladies at the reception site thought it was gorgeous, so that made me feel better.

I made this one last night.  It's a yellow cake with pink butter cream icing and white butter cream lacing.  The pink flowers are made of royal icing.  My first time to do lacing and icing embroidery!

this is a cupcake made using the waldorf astoria red velvet cake recipe senti in by flayvurdfun (thanks for the recipe - it's easy to make & tastes good).

i used some leftover buttercream to draw what's meant to be a hibiscus, in case u couldn't tell...:-)

This is the cake I made for my daughters first grade teacher as an end of the year thank you.  I was having major bulging issues, but after 2 hours of trying to fix it i gave up and just decorated it.  My first time doing the embroidery technique.  Definitely need more practice.  Same with the swiss dots.

This cake was for a friend's mother.  It was actually for a renewal of vows.  It's covered in fondant, which was a little lumpy.  I only had a days notice, the day before I had to go out of town too.

This is a 3 teired fondant covered wedding cake as a gift for my cousin. The roses are assorted soft pink to light mauve colores. They were then dusted to highlight the veining then steamed. The cake board was a stencil of a rose with brush type embroidery for the stems. The rose was a 2D mold I had. The roses on the cake were made with the Rosemary Watson technique.

This was just for fun I wanted to try brushed embroidery. It was from the course III book. The cake is a yellow cake with barvarion cream filling covered with MMF.

Top tier is strawberry with vanilla buttercream.  Middle tier is spice cake with vanilla buttercream.  Bottom is carrot cake with maple buttercream.  Brush embroidery flowers and leaves.

12-9-6 heart shape wedding cake.  All cakes covered in white rolled fondant.  Black brushed embroidery vine and leaf designs on cake with mini 5 petal flowers and buds as accents.  Dimensional 5 petal gum paste flowers with black brush embroidery designs attached with royal icing.  Twisted pillar construction with fountain set up.  This was the most different cake I have ever made and one of the most challenging because of the black on the white--no room for mistakes since the black stains the white fondant

My first attempt at brushed embroidery.  10-inch single layer white cake with chocolate buttercream filling and 1/4" base coat.  It was very easy and quite fun!
