This is a dummy cake I did for practice and to use the new tools I bought. It is inspired by the cake on the cakesbysam website.

This is a teapot cake I made for my daughter's birthday party. First one. The bottom layer (under the tablecloth) is a dummy cake. The spout and handle are fondant-covered styrofoam. The spout proved to be a challenge and I ended up using ribbon roses to hold it up. Still turned out cute and I got a lot of compliments on it.

I took this to Hobby Lobby last night right before my class and by the time class was over (2 hours) someone had put a big hole in it! I am so discouraged - what makes people want to destroy things like this???

1st fondant cake - or dummy. Wilton course 3 class, and I did not get a cake baked - so teacher gave me a dummy.

Only the bottom layer is cake. The rest is a dummy cake built from paper mache hat boxes (cheaper than styrofoam). All iced in bc and covered with MMF. The topper is floral wire with beads and MMF decorations. I had so much fun making this cake and got an order for another one upon delivery. Inspired by Lindy Smith and other designs seen on cake central. Still need lots of practice covering cakes with MMF, but it was fun to try.

Another shot of the dummy cake, I would love to get help with decorating dummy cakes; I am not having much luck with decorating the dummies in royal or fondant.

I took Colette Peters' Advanced Fondant class at Wilton in April. We had a choice to make an all white cake, a crooked cake, or a trompe l'oeil cake ("fool the eye" in French--had to look like something real). I designed this biscotti barrel. It's a carved styrofoam dummy--lordy, that's messy work--covered in handpainted fondant (my design) and topped with handmade, airbrushed, fondant covered, styrofoam biscotti. Gumpaste butterfly, napkin, plate, & bug. Yes, it could (pretty easily) be made real.

This is a dummy that I did just for practice and fun. The icing is buttercream and the flowers are royal icing. I'm still fairly new at this...Thanks for looking!

This wedding cake(royal over styrofoam) w/royal accented fondant bow is a duplicate of the one I created for Wilton Master Course class final. I was thrilled to no end to find it on the front cover of the 2006 course Wilton course catalog!

So here's my cake all finished. Some of you were very helpful in helping me out with this cake, so I say thank you. I made this just to practice my fondant and was tired of the cake I used to have. It was a lot of hands hurt from piping royal icing, but it wasn't too bad :) Entire thing has pearl dust on it, and pearls are hand rolled fondant.

This is a dummy cake I made for a Wilton Instructor meeting. Cakes are covered in fondant with royal, fondant and colorflow decorations. I tried to include every Wilton technique that I could.

Yeah, I thought I could make a cake dummy by cutting circles out of floral foam and covering them in contact paper. What a mess! I've already ordered new ones from and are anxiously awaiting their delivery :)

This is NOT a cake, it's paper plates stacked and taped then covered with royal. The top layers of plates have been 'carved out' to give the fruit a place to 'sit'.

this is a dummy cake made on a cerealbox with all royal icing. I made the mistake of reading the Wilton directions for the morning glories AFTER I tried the flowers. I saw this combination of flowers growing wild alongside the road. The pink flowers are called knot weed in Missouri.

Gold Swirl Dummy Practice

This was my first dummy cake and first attempt at a wedding cake. The cake dummy's were actually a little hard to work with as they're too lightweight and when you ice them, they want to push away from you. It's hard to get the icing smoothed out. Also, I had a lot of trouble with the fondant tearing. I think I need to sand down the sharp corners of the cake dummies a little more. I thought this turned out okay but I was working on it too late and I was too tired and started rushing.

I had a few other ideas in mind for this, my first cake dummy, however, I ran out of time (and patience). It's just for practice anyway.

Bottom cake is lemon w/lemon buttercream. Top cake is a dummy covered with MMF. I iced the dummy with too much buttercream so the MMF is kind of screwy, lesson learned. My brother, Alva, loves Michigan's football team, hence the design.

ok, here are the finished 6 lilies, i just wanted to get them roughly placed on some thing as i wont be putting them on until i get the cake to the wedding reception, please dont look at the uniced dummy (tacky, i know) also the actual cake is going to have really high tiers, about 5 to 6 inches high so i am hoping the lilies wont look as big then.... any feedback about the placement of flowers is most welcome, but this is roughly how she wants them on the cake...

Dummy cake made for mine and my mothers New Year. We are on MST but we celebrated a "dummy" EST New Year. She got my 3 different set of luster dust for christmas, so I made this cake to play around with them. The "fireworks" are white chocolate painted w/LD. Cake covered in MMF.

This was my first paying job!!! I used cake dummy's. And one of the bow's is fondant, so is the gift tag. The gal I did it for wanted it to be elegant and look like gifts. I was very nervous making these cakes.
