This is my first attempt at a pillow. Didn't quite turn out exactly the way I wanted, but my customer was extremely happy with the result. It's yellow cake w/buttercream icing. I used an impression mat and gold dragees. I bought the tiara from Party City.

This is my first attempt to make topsy-turvy style cake. It is time consuming, but I enjoyed very much and learned in the process a lot. Everything is MMF except the crown which is MMF mixed with some gum paste.

Made this for my daugther's birthday party today. Two 8" layers, chocolate with cookies and cream filling. Used a diamond quilting mat and piped some dots. Ribbon border on top and shells on the bottom. The crown I got from Claire's in the mall. : ) Darn, I see I took a photo with the crown facing the back of the cake, LOL. Will try to get a better pic at the party.

1st paid gig! I wasnt happy, was only going to charge 20 instead of 40 but the mom loved it. MMF tiara broke when I took off the 'mold' so had to 'paint' w/ RI on back. UGH. Carrot cake, pineapple cr.ch. filling/crusting cr.ch. frosting recipes from CC. Thx to Doug/SweetArt for pan help, mjsparkles2001 for tiara help and the pillow /tiara makers on CC for inspiration. Got future order from guest at party on top of wedding cake am doing for the mom in 08. Need LOTS more border practice b4 then LOL

I made this cake for my little girl's 5th birthday. She is definately the princess of the family. Triple chocolate pound cake with fondant- the crown is royal icing. The entire is dusted with luster dust.

This was the worst cake I have done in a long time. I thought this pillow cake would be nice and easy, but so many things went wrong. The fondant covering the cake was not pliable enough. The Rope kept sliding off the cake even after applying a fondant glue mixture of meringue powder and water. I initially made a crown out of royal icing, but it crumbled. So I ran out to a dollar store and bought a tiara. It was really a complete nightmare. Any suggestions on how I could have improved it???

This is only my second pillow cake. Used a 10 x 10 and I like it a whole lot better than my first. I'm still learning this pillow thing! Crown and flowers are gumpaste.

As requested, here's my tiara template though I didn't follow it exactly. Also, the center of the "main" heart shows a diamond shape - I was planning on doing a mold of a jewel (in gumpaste) but then figured it would be too heavy, so I left it out.

I did these for the court of a Mardi Gras ball. The customer who bought them put them each in a beautiful box and presented them to the court. Pretty cool.

This is my first paid cake that I was volunteered to do by my daughter for her co-worker daughter. I made the the crown from white choco melts. I didnt know what to charge so I only charged 35.00 for a half sheet. please tell me if I under charged. To me this cake looks plain.

Pillow is covered in fondant and airbrushed purple. The crown is chocolate, because my royal icing crown broke at the last minute. The pillow and the tiara were made using the instructions in the articles here on CC. Thank you carrielynnfields and missyek!

This was an idea I found on CC. This is a yellow cake with chocolate & BC icing. I made this for my boyfriend's 37th birthday. He is always saying he is the king and his favorite drink is crown royal so this was PERFECT for him!!

I really haven't used fondant EVER at home, besides the cake I did for my Colette class, so I consider this my first fondant attempt. Also my first pillow cake. I would have carved the bottom a bit more, but the cake recipe I was experimenting with was a little too dense for carving. I made the crown out of gumpaste and royal icing (more sturdy). This was a HUGE learning experience cake, so I guess I would consider it a semi-success!

This was fun to make. It was the second princess cake my little girl got this year. The Pillow was the first one I have ever made and was a fresh stawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese filling. The bottom was cookies & cream cake with cookies and cream filling. It was a HUGE hit with the parents, but most importantly my daughter loved it! It is covered in MMF.
