This pic is a little better than the one I submitted for the contest. At least you can see the colors better. the teacher's desk and accessories and the student tables are fondant, all books, stools and the chalkboard are royal icing. I used wooden dowels cut to size for the table legs and lollipop sticks for the chalkboard and stool legs.

This was a 9x13 orange cake with chocolate sabra liqueur buttercream, covered with vanilla and chocolate fondant. It was made for a school fund-raising auction. The "eraser" is a bit of the same kind of cake, also fondant covered. The "chalk" is fondant as well. playing with the powdered sugar "chalkdust" was fun!

Cream cheese sugar cookies with Wilton Royal icing. I did a couple of these for my son's teachers and the principal and vice principal at school. They are clelebrating teacher appreciation week at his school. I cut out the cookies freehand using a pizza cutter.

I was asked by the other parents to make a cake for a lunch to honor our children's kindergarten teacher. I used the chalkboard theme and put all 22 kids' names around the edge. This was a huge cake...1/2 yellow, 1/2 chocolate with buttercream icing.

I made this as a donation to my son's school where three teachers were retiring. It's a full sheet with 8"*10"*2" books stacked on top. Buttercream icing with a few fondant accents. I had 2 orders for the weekend before I could even set the cake down!! They loved it and gave out lots of business cards for me.

This is cheesecake decorated in fonadnt with apple cupcakes for the teacher's students. It's all edible. I was very happy with the green color. And I put it in a box in my fridge (sice it was cheesecake) and it was fine. No bleeding or anything.

It's not actually a "back to school" cake. It's for my sons school closing down at the end of this school year, which is Thursday. 1/4 sheet cake, white, with chocolate icing. This is for the staff, it's a small school, but I also made an apple cake to go with it. Sort of plain, but I think it say's it all lol!

This one I did for my son's kindergarten class. It was to celebrate the last day of a program called PALS. I had never done a chalkboard cake before but I got the idea from this site...thanks everyone! It's hard to tell from the pic but I used the triangle to make stripes on the sides and used the basketweave tip on the top to mimic the grains in the wood for the frame. It's all done in BC.

I cut a 9X13 cake in half to make 2 cakes. This was one of them, and the other was identical for my other daughter's teacher. Just very simple but I thought it was cute.

I made this mini cake for my son's teacher. He started 1st grade today!! I used the dark chocolate cake recipe from here and make some mini loaf cakes. This is 2 stacked. It's covered in MMF w/BC and MMF accents. His teacher loved it, and the principal even stopped me in the hall to look at it!!

Made for my son's first day back at school. Great advertising, got a couple of orders from parents after this. Just a 9x13 cake. Board is BC, accents are fondant. Had issues making the crayons. My son loved it.

I made this cake for a math teacher who turned 30.
All accents are made with fondant and gumpaste.
The blackboard and desk I used a some cardboard for support (as again I did not prepare ahead of time!) You can't tell from this pic but there is a a brown boarder around the blackboard.

This was done for 2 teachers birthdays but seem to fit into the back to school theme. The lion was done because that is the school mascot.

This was my daughter's birthday cake. Needless to say.....she is a school teacher. It is a white cake with buttercream icing. The pencils around the edge are buttercream with fondant lead and erasers. I got the idea from a cake posted on this site.....but I'm sorry I don't remember whose it was.

I made this cake for my son's kindergarten graduation. On the chalk board I added all of the kids names from his class. The gator is the mascot of his school and the ladybug was one of the topics that they learned about. I will add one more picture of the back of the cake.

My daughters' daycare director is leaving, so I offered to do a cake for their farewell party (as an attempt to get more business). Unfortunately I didn't have much time to do this, because they moved the date up 5 days after I volunteered. Chalkboard, chalk, and apple are fondant. Everything else is BC.

This is a 1/2 sheet cake. Half is a strawberry cake with vanilla creme filling, a recipe that I found on CC. The other half is a french vanilla cake with butterscotch buttercream frosting for the filling. Frosting is all buttercream. I used the leftover butterscotch frosting to make brown for the chalkboard edge. I got this idea after looking at several other chalkboard cakes here on CC. Thanks for the ideas! Hope the teachers love it.

11 x 9 inch caramel mud cake covered in mauve fondx with fondant accents. Ordered by a teacher for a teacher who was leaving. There was limited time and little budget so the brief was simple and keep the cost down. It looks a little plain to me but it is what was ordered.

I have made about six variations on this cake. I'm a former teacher, so when student teachers leave at the end of the year, I get requests for one of these cakes! It's all buttercream with white chocolate letters.
