This is my second BCT and I am a big fan. If you can't find anything for a certain character, just draw it. Tho I had quite the time even finding an image of this little cartoon on the internet. It's Uniqua.

The Castle was requested by the little girl's mother. The little girl is fascinated by the Backyardigans. Uniqua is a FBCT on both cakes. I only wish I had a picture of how the cake arrived...this is how it looked when it left my house. Upon arrival, one of the turrets had torn off! I HATE doing castle cakes. This could quite possibly be the last one I ever take an order for. They are simply to unstable for me to deal with anymore.

When I did this cake there wasnt anything for the Backyardigans. I had never heard of them so after a little research i found out they are animals that play pretend in the backyard. So instead of doing one of there adventures I just put them standing in a backyard. The fence is popsicle sticks and the animals are drawn out of chocolate. It was my 3rd attempt but they came out good. Here is a link to what they are suppose to look like so you can compare the chocolate drawings.

I made this cake for my son's 1st birthday. I had a difficult time trying to find Backyardigan cake toppers or toys so I had to make the characters myself. They are made out of fondant on no fail sugar cookies. Transporting the cake with the stacked house was a challenge. I was so happy that it didn't fall.

This was for my son's 4th birthday party. I made all the characters out of fondant, but the ship wouldn't hold them all, so we settled for this. The kid was happy, so that's all that mattered. :)

A cake that was done for a customer at the bakery I work at. They provided the Backyardigans toys and I implemented them on the cake. All buttercream.

A cake for a client. I had 3 days notice. It was originally supposed to be all buttercream with fondant accents but it was so hot my BC kept melting. The fondant was bowing out from the cake a little because it didn't stick to the evil BC.

This is my first ever FBCT. I made it TOO THICK, and couldn't squish it into the top frosting, so added another layer! The pic. is too bright, the colors for the spots were darker live. Cake is Strawberry from scratch from CC with crusting BC. First time using tips too. I embellished around Uniqua's head a bit, but that pic is a little fuzzy. Thanks for looking and providing your comments. I definately learned a lot!

Me and my sister worked on these cakes for my nephews 2nd birthday. He has a thing for the backyardigans. My sister baked the cakes in the pirate pans and we made them into the characters. These were a lot of fun!

This cake is for my daughter's 6th birthday. There is an episode of the show where they are in the jungle...that is what she wanted. Well, I am not talented enough to make figures out of fondant yet, so I downloaded them off the internet, "laminated" them with clear contact paper, and made a jungle. She was excited, and the cake tasted great.

This was a cake for my 3 year old son. It was directly inspired by Aaris's beautiful cake in the gallery. It's a 5" and 9", but the bottom tier should have been larger because Tasha and Uniqua kept falling off! I posted a closeup of the figurines (all MMF) in the 3D gallery.

This was my first FBCT, I was fairly happy with it, I know I need to work on the smoothing part. My Son loved it though. It was the cake mix extender cake with the cookies and cream filling and buttercream frosting. Everyone loved it!

All buttercream. Tyrone and the balloons are 2 separate FBCTs. I would have preferred to make the whole top one large FBCT but I didn't have space in my freezer for one that large.

This was my first non-family cake and boy was I nervous about making it. The little girl loves the backyardigans especially Uniqua. I didn't get to see her reaction when I delivered it but just heard that she loved it. The cake is a 10" chocolate and 6" white almond sour cream cake with buttercream filling. The characters are made out of mmf and so is the fence, flowers and curly cues. Thanks to everyone who posted their backyardigan cakes I got alot of inspiration from them. Thanks for looking.

French vanilla cake, oreo filling, rolled buttercream accents and FBCT, used sparkle dust on balloons.
Aack, this cake gave me problems from the get-go ~ transfer broke 3 times, couldn't get me lettering way I wanted, ended up with smudges of blue on the white icing, stuck finger accidentally in cake, BUT I finally finished it

Two techniques used to try to achieve details with Toba's glace. Cookie A was outlined as ususal. Cookie B was first outlined with little dots, after those dried a little, then I connected the dots. The difference, better detail on the horns. This glace behaves as a non-newtonian fluid with very high viscosity and very high surface tension, making it diffucult to keep details in small curves (due to the cornstach in the 10X confectioner's sugar)

This cake took FOREVER! It is made of 4 separate cakes - one 1/4 sheet and 3 8-inch round cakes. Each a different flavor, with a different filling. The characters are all FBCT. Because most of the characters had small extended parts on them, I had to but a backing on each of them. Unfortunately, there was no way I could smooth out the frosting, so I put borders around them. It looks good, but not quite what I hoped for. Frosting the cakes together took a long time - ugh. But my 2 year old loves it!
