Hi everyone,
I am an at home baker, doing about 1 cake a week. A couple who are acquaintances (my daughter goes to preschool with their son) mentioned to me a few weeks ago that they want me to do the husband's 40th birthday cake. My daughter was invited to their son's birthday party...only a few from the class were invited. Last week, we got an invitation to the 40th birthday party...I was a little surprised because I don't know them very well, but they seem nice. The thing is, the party is at the end of March and I already have a cake due that same day. Would you contact them and ask if they really are interested in having me do the cake?? I hate to pester people, but they mentioned it to me a couple of times and I can't handle a lot of cakes, with my 2 other jobs, 2 kids, etc., and at the time I said "okay, great, let me know..." so they may just assume I have booked them on that date??
thanks for your input.
I think I would call and touch base and let them know that someone else had contacted you about that date also and you needed to work out your plans. If you plan things right, you can pull off 2 cakes.
i think you could pull off the two cakes with enough notice. if they aren't terribly huge, just do all your baking one day, all your frosting one day, any make ahead decor the week before or so. i would contact them to "firm things up" regarding number of people , flavors, etc. if you know when they won't be home, call then so youcan leave a message, then it's up to her to call you back, then maybe you won't feel like you're "pestering"
Thanks guys! I just emailed them and the dad/party guest of honor says yes, he definitely wants me to do the cake, wants me to work things out with his wife, so I'm glad I asked! You just never want to assume, you know?? Now, to stress about two cakes due on the same day...hopefully one of them will have lots of "make ahead" things I can do beforehand...
