I need help. I have to make a cake for around 40 people. The only request is baby blocks. I have thought about just a sheet cake with blocks on top, but what I would really like to do is large blocks stacked. Either 2 or 3 on bottom with 1 or 2 on top. I need to make sure they are supported well. There is my problem. If I leave a slightly larger gap between the blocks will I be able to support the top layer with just card board underneath and dowels? Or am I going to have to use something stronger. I do not want the cakes to sag. I also thought about the bottom cakes being placed as diamonds to see 2 side of the block from the front. Will I be able to support those? I hate being a perfectionist! Can someone help me with some ideas please.

I made the block cake last year for a friends baby shower!! The pic is is my photos.I had some problems trying to keep the top block from sagging but I think If it would have been perfectly square and straight that problem would have been eliminated!! I used a 12 inch square pan and cut the middle block out. I guess the best advice is make sure the cakes are square and flat!!

weefoot,
I just added a baby block cake to my photos. I had cakeboards under each block and 4 dowels (2 on each b).
Hope this helps.
