I need to make a halloween cake for Tuesday the 25th. I am putting a royal icing fence on the cake top with fondant covered pumpkins and chocolate buttercream on the cake. I wanted to know how long the cake has before it looks awful. I was hoping to do the cake saturday but if that is too far in advance to put the royal icing, fondant and buttercream all together, then I'll wait till monday night. Is it possible to do the fondant on the buttercream and then place the royal icing on the cake tuesday?

Thanks!!
Dia

I'd wait with the fence if it is the fence that is pressed into the icing and cake, because the moister from the cake and icing will make it soft.

Thanks for replying. Seems to be a limited question I guess. The fence will be vertical on the top of the cake so only teh very bottom will be in the cake. I have to finish it before bringing it to work Tuesday so I hope it will last at least 10 hours. She is taking it from work to her class.
