My daughters teacher asked me to make 24 cupcakes in the shape of a soccer ball. I can get them in the round ball pattern but how do I get the pentagon patterns on there? I threw the idea of doing a covered cupcake cake but she really just wanted it to be like the kind Walmart makes...

If anyone has any pics or ideas please send them to [email protected]

Thanks in advance

forgive me this morning...I havent had all my coffee yet, but I dont think I understand what she wants...does she want all the cupcakes to be soccer balls or some white some black cupcakes put in the shape of soccer balls? I liked your idea but I dont know if I understand the teacher.. need to wake up I suppose.

I am not sure if you have seen the ones that Walmart does, but they take individual cupcakes and arrange them into different shapes on a cake board (ex. frog, clown, ice cream cone on walmart.com) well she wants one shaped like one huge soccer ball. and I am not sure how to go about doing it. Like I said before if I could just cover the whole top with icing I could just star tip the pentagon shapes on and it would look like one huge soccer ball.

I may end up telling her this is the only way it can be done to my knowledge.

Are cupcake cakes any messier than regular individual cupcake servings?

Thank You!!!

I found this:
I thought maybe you could make half balls from fondant..then take the bottom side of one of your tips and press it into the fondant to form the pentagon shape. Maybe use food writers to make the black spots... or incorporate black fondant ????????? These are very cute!!

Okay, I think I get what you are saying. Each cupcake is individually decorated, but the whole cake is 1 soccer ball, not each cupcake a soccer ball.

I think flayvurdfun was on the right track. I'm thinking have 18 or 19 white and intersperse 5 or 6 black ones to give the illusion of a soccer ball. I don't think that they would have to be in a pentagon shape.

I just drew this up real quick in paint, so forgive the crudeness of it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those little soccer ball cupcakes but that is not what she is wanting although I think they would be MUCH easier than what she is asking.

GINA- that is what I am looking for and I have played with all the different shapes and I just cannot get it to look like a soccer ball. it looks more like a white circle with black polka dots on it to me.

I think I will just have to tell her what I can do and if she doesn't like it then she is gonna have to get someone more talented than me to do it..

It is just for her son's school b-day party so I am about positive she will settle on one of my other ideas.

Thanks for all your help you guys and gals are WONDERFUL!!!!
