I'm from upstate NY - Albany area.
I think there was a thread yesterday or a few days ago from someone asking about ppl from NYC.
Hi there...I am in Brooklyn....I have been looking around for contests and stuff like that in NY....I came across one called "Cake Walk NY" that was held in May at Grand Central....it was sponsered by one of the wedding magazines.....I'm going to be looking for it next year...
I have never come across a club or anything like that, but if I do...I will let everyone in New Yawk know about it!
Hi Taylorsmom...I live in New York. Bayside Queens to be exact. where do you live? I'm not aware of any cake clubs but if you find one...Please let me know...thanks!!!!
Brooklyn NY here...Adven where are you in bklyn..Im in the bensonhurst area myself. I'm new decorating and will be taking the wilton class in a few weeks. Just joined this site after stumbling upon it and am blown away by so many incredible creations everyone here has done
Genesis..I grew up in bayside...
Nice to see some fellow NYers here

I AM IN NEW YORK WHERE NY, NJ, AND PA ALL COME TOGETHER. I DON'T KNOW OF ANYTHING HERE IN THIS AREA. WOULD BE NICE IF WE COULD GET SOMETHING TOGETHER AND MEET.
Cutecookie......I'm in Bay Ridge....Hi neighbor!!!
Where are you taking the Wilton course? I just contacted a chocolate place called JoMart....Ave. R & Nostrand Ave. I don't want the basic course cause I know a lot of the stuff already so the owner told me that he would do a customized class for me for whatever I needed to learn.
I never took a course so there are a lot of short cuts and basic stuff I need to be aware of.
Talk to you soon....
Ave. R & Nostrand Ave. ....
I used to live on the corner of Nostrand Ave and Flatbush..near Brooklyn University..lol
wow..a Loooong time ago!
Diva...I lived on East 51st street & Avenue D as a kid. What a tiny itty bitty teenie weenie world!!! My mom still lives near Brooklyn College....I moved to Bay Ridge when I got married. I knew you had to be from Brooklyn!!!
lol actually...born and raised in NYC with a detour in Brooklyn..but hey...I never had a problem in Brooklyn..right?
Why is every NY afraid to go into Brooklyn? As a matter of fact...it was chic to Live in Park Slope and work in NYC....they always said I looked like a Bensonhurst girl.
Then I was offended when I saw...WORKING GIRL..lol
"wha chu lookin' at?"
*slapping myself silly!
Hey hey hey, Brooklyn in the house. (Nostrand Ave. and Maple street)
I was wondering were all the NY people were.
The only club I know of near by, is the NJ club. They just had a meeting a few weeks ago. I receive there mailings but have never had a chance to go to the meeting.
Hey Adven..Nice to meet you neighbor..what a small world...I am taking course 1 at the peppermill..50th street and 16th ave I believe. They offer the basic courses. I only found a couple of places in this area that offer the courses so went with that one.
That's so cool Cutecookie...I'm going to look into that place....
Hi TwinDees....Which way is Maple? south towards Sheepshead Bay or north towards Utica ave? Suppose you're at King's Highway..which way do you go?
Diva....you crazy girl.....Working girl was from Staten Island..LOL
And the truth about Brooklyn is that it's becoming untouchable! Real Estate has skyrocketed as people are discovering that the "bad" neighborhoods actually have some of the most beautiful architecture. Everything is slowly turning around. There are "bad" neighborhoods in every city....Brooklyn also has some of the best neighborhoods as well. Fuggedabadit!!
Cutecookie...have you ever shopped at Kerekes? They're on 15th Ave & 61st street. They have tons of equipment & stuff...including SatinIce....
Hi Adven..Actually no I haven't shopped there.. I literally am just starting to get into decorating. I made a doll cake last year and it was my first time even using fondant. A friend of mine kind of got me hooked on the idea of learning and taking things to the next step recently and I have been reading and researching non stop about different tequniques that I wasn't even aware of. I will definately need to check it out though since there don't seem to be too many places to get supplies close by. Thanks for the tip.
For all those "newbie's" like myself that live in Queens. There is a place called PattyCakes that offer cake decorating Wilton certified classes. I think their website is www.pattycakes.com.
Hey Cute Cookie where in Bayside did you grow up in?
Hi genesis..I grew up near 73rd and bell and also lived on springfield blvd for awhile...went to ps 205, is74 and cardozo lol...How bout you? Did you grow up there?
Hey CuteCookie~ No I didn't grow up there I've only lived there for about 6 years. But my daughter went to 74 and now goes to Cardozo. We live off of Springfield Blvd and 67th Ave.
Hey adven68 - Maple Street is North towards Utica Ave. Maple meets Utica. I will have to check Kerekes out.
I signed up for classes at the peppermill but took them at Michaels instead.
Pattycakes is very good. I have never visited the store. but I have ordered from them may times on-line. And since I live in Brooklyn and they are in queens you get everything next day if you place the order early in the morning. Just do standard shipping not express. They have never failed me.
Yes PattyCakes is nice...and cheap.
Twin Dees I LOVE your quote!!
FYI for all you New Yorkers. The 8th annual Chocolate Show is going to be on Sat Nov. 12 at the Metropolitan Pavillion. It should be fun to see what they are doing with Chocolate these days.
