Has anyone tried the wilton dust.....Can you get gold scrolls if you use them to paint or are they too course....

Im not sure if Im doing something wrong or if this is just not meant to be used this way.... I bought some and am praticing ...but am not sure if I need to order from somewhere else.....I saw this at micheals and figured Id try can anyone give me pointers!!!

There's another thread somewhere about the difference in dust and all the other stuff available (I can't find it). I don't know exactly what you bought, but from what I've seen at my Michael's, all they have is the coarser stuff that probably won't give you the look you're going for. Sorry I can't be much help, but if you look for that other thread, it will certainly explain it better. Good luck.

I just read your post and here`s what you need to do:
shimmer dust is used to sprinkle on your decorations, brushing some water on them (decorations). If you want to use the one to paint on your decorations, then you need to get "Luster Dust", which you can mix with some
clear alcohol (gin or vodka). Just brush on two or three times and it`ll be a perfect shine. I love using "Luster Dusts".

I use the shimmer dust...this is what I used on the Mommy cake in my photos.

I let the flowers dry a bit and then take a brush, dip it in water, shake the excess water off, brush the flowers and then sprinkle the shimmer.

Shimmer dust just adds a hint of sparkle. It's not as intense as luster dusts.

I kind of get ... that luster dust and shimmer and peetal dust is different but Has anyone had good results with wiltons vs. other brands....

I thought that luster dust wasn't approved for consumption. Do you know if shimmer dust is?

They quit selling luster dust at the cake supply store I frequent because it's not approved for consumption. Do people still use it? Is there a different brand that is approved?

Some luster dust are not approved for food consumption some are. Then again it depends on where you live.

HMM good question ....is that along the same lines as those silver dragees.....

Sugarcraft has the dust but I was trying to go around ordering from online and wanted to find here so that why I tried the wilton stuff..... not impressed but if thats how all shimmer dust works then I wont be spending that extra money.....

I just figured....that the wilton color paste is not as good as americolor so there for there something out there that I should be looking for a differnt brand....or item it sounds as luster dust uis the way to go...... but now Im reading the last post and am getting worried Its for a years giantic birthday cake ....Last one in SA before we leave to our next duty station..... and all our family is here.....Im starting to picture kids passing out!!! j/k

Well, the store where I bought my luster dusts, when I first went in, I didn't know what they were, so I asked the lady and she told me they were use to dust edable images: chocolates, gumpaste flowers, figurines, etc. So I bought a few.
Now, what I know is there are a few luster dusts not consumable, like: Avocado, Holly Green, Light Green, Mauve, Midnight Blue, etc. There are some more not consumable. But I try not to use those.

So i checked my luster dust. The brand is Leanna I think? But it just says nontoxic on it. I wanted to use it to paint a molded chocolate peice, but maybe I should use something else? Its Super Gold Luster dust.

Does anyone else have experience with painting with luster dust and then telling clients not to eat that part?

I've eaten choc. pieces with luster dust and nothing happened to me. It's really no different than say if you ate a crayon. It wouldn't taste to good but it won't hurt you. You use such a small amount of luster dust on your pieces that it doesn't seem to have any taste. And I think as long as it says non-toxic it won't hurt anyone who eats it.
