Hello all!! I just finished my um..."no where near Wilton roses" but for a first try...I am pretty darn happy..they are in the freezer, bet I can't do them again...(that is why they are in the freezer..LOL) and I wanted to show you the cake I made using my new little pattern press thingys..LOL thanks for peeking and all you help...
Sorry for the dark pics, camera was dying...
Beth
They look great! At least you can do them. I have yet to get one done that looks like a rose. Great job! Cake looks fanastic too!
Very pretty! Good job with the patterns. How did you space them? I always wondered about that because I have those patterns too and have been afraid to try to stick the pattern all the way around a cake and not have a pattern fit. Thanks.
aww ty... I can still improve someway..but I find it is eaiser to make my own rose instead of trying to count petals..maybe I get petal-happy lol TY for the nice comments.
Beth
Well that was the tricky part..lol I had to just place them lightly on the cake and if I got to close, I could just use my Viva papertowel to smooth and start over.. I love them and you can do much more on a bigger cake...that is my next step. TY for the nice comments.
Beth
Also to get your spacing correct there is a rond plastic thing that you put your cake on and it has guides for dividing your cake!!
I think the roses look pretty darn good. I dont count petals either, I just keep adding until it looks right.
Yeah that is what I did...I tried to do the counting..but I couldnt do it..lol..(Yes, I can count..lol just not keeping up with how many petals went where)...TY Dale for peeking...
Beth
They look great!! hose things give me such a hard time!!! I may be asking you for lessons!!!
The cake looks great too with the pattern.. make sure to post a pic of it all together.
Thanks scoobam!! Yeah they gave me a fit trying to follow the Wilton way...so I just started maked "hills" on the side and went from there ALOT of room for improvement, but its a start..lol
Beth
Awww..I am still a newbie... Hubby says that the outside patterns look like little dogs?? Do yall see that...???
Beth
They look pretty decent for. I know some people that still dont have The hang of them. Just practice. So pretty darn good for a 1st try. Keep it up
I have been known to cheat on the Wilton rose. LOL Sometimes I make my base just using the coupler. Other times I build my base up using tip 104. Or what ever tip I am making my roses from LOL... I did it right under my instructor's nose too. She asked me if I cheating again. And I said you betcha I am !!!! I even added a bit of piping gel to keep the edge of the petals together.
If my icing is working then I used the tip 12. Experiment, do what works for you.
Princess
I am with you .. I NEVER count petals.. and I do see the dogs now that you mention it... I do like it.
Im with cake rookie ....at least you can do them ....Im sooooo jealous.......thats what i get for skipping basics....whoops
great job ..........
They do kind of look like happy little puppy faces.
I like it
Maybe that could be a theme to try for..on a kids cake or just any animal lover.
I like your cake! I have the little presses, too. But I have yet to use them. I like how you made the design on top the most. And yes, I do see the puppy faces, too! Your roses look really good. I am also a noncounter. It just seems more natural looking if you can see the rose coming to life w/o the exact # of petals. Does that make sense?
Tanya
Your cakes look great......I bought some of the pattern press thingys too but have yet to use them....after seeing your cake, I may have to give them a try......I see the puppy faces too...cute!! Your roses look wonderful too.....I count but then if it doesn't look right, I add more petals.
You guys have made me feel so much better!! Thank you all for the nice comments... I know I still have a long way to go, but I know that with time and patience, I will get there... It is so good to have friends like you guys. I don't know what I would do without this place TY all again and have a great day!!!
Hugs,
Beth
