Could you cover them in fondant and then use luster dust? It would be a shame to color them gold permanently.

I've seen gold ones in a cake mag. but I don't know how they got them gold. Looks like paint. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

I would feel safe in painting my columns , pillars, whatever you want to call them. I would NOT paint the plates. Maybe use the gold foil cake doilies for that? Or the fondant idea maybe braid a band of fondant around the edge of plate and paint with luster dust? Just a thought. Good luck with this one.

This is just an idea, but could you paint them with gold lusterdust mixed with alcohol? I have not used lusterdust at all yet, so I am not sure how effective it would be, but atleast it would be edible amd maybe washable? I hope this helps, let me know if you try it so I will know for my own info. Good luck. Keli

The luster dust could work, BUT it would have to be after you've already set it up since it would smudge off on handling. I've also had luster dust stain hard plastic - not a great deal, but it still stained.
