Hi Every1,
I just got some of those plastic chocolate molds. I figured they might make some cute decorations out of candy melts to place on my cakes. I've never used them before so I could use some hints and tips PRETTY PLEASE!!
Also....if, for example, I am using a santa claus mold and it needs 2 colors, how would I do it. Would I put in red candy melts in some spots, allow to dry, then move on the the next color? I hope that rambling made sense.......
Thanks!
Berta
Im kind of a newbie here, but I'll try. The wilton book says to take a paintbrush, the kind you get at cake decorating stores and paint the color in. Like, if you want santa, dip your paintbrush in the red candymelts, paint the part you want red, let dry and then fill in with chocolate. You do this with each color you want. Am I making any sense?
Yes that makes sense...thanks....I wonder if you could just paint it then but a thick coat after it has all dried so the decorations would be hollow instead of solid...too save some of the candy melts....boy I hate toask but does that make sense??
Thanks for your help!
Berta
Im sure you could. I've never personally tried, but I dont see why not. Glad to be of help!!
BTW, Im sure you know this, but I would let it dry REALLY good before I undmolded it.

I would think so, but...... Im not sure! Maybe one of the others can help you with that. Also check Wilton's web site, they might have some pointers. I wish I could help more! Let me know how it turns out.

Try this, Berta and see if helps.
I have done ALOT of these. I paint the inside of the red for santa , set in freezer of fridge for 1 min. just until it sets, then proceed with next color. Inbetween each color fridge or freezer.
chill well after it is done to unmold well.
Check out the sea shells I just did for a b-day party. I filled those with 2 diff fillings to save on candy melts. I do abunch of these at christmas and easter.
If you want to know about the fillings let me know.
Or if you have any other questions about them I love to help!
Have to get ready for work now --Be back in 4-5 hours. Im so bad with this site
BAKERCHICK: Thank you for the link. I am on my way to read up.
NEWTODECORATING: Your shells were BEAUTIFUL!! WOW!! Can you describe to me how you did them? I am definitely interested in the fillings as well. I hate to use up all my candy melts. If it would be easier for you, you can email me [email protected] . I got a ton of the molds and am anxious to get started. Have a good afternoon at work!

I like to use a paint brush or a toothpick depending on the size and detail of the mold.
If I am using several colors I use my electric skillet and put a washcloth in the bottom, then 1 inch of water, and then my candy melts in baby food jars in the water and turn on low. The constant warm water keeps the melts at the right temp to work with. DON'T get the water in the melts they will seize up.
If filling a large mold with the same color I use the squeeze bottles.
On the sea shells, I used a paint brush and painted the inside lightly with the color I wanted then froze. The next color has to be warm enough to melt the first for it to "stick" together. I just put a thin layer of white over the first layer. Filled with filling and covered with white. Back in the freezer for a few min and then cover with a paper towel and flip. They pop right out. I use the paper towel because sometimes they fall out before I am ready and break.
Filling:
Mix 50/50 white candy melts and marshmallow cream. It will be a dough like consistancy. Very yummy!
OR
1/4 lb margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 lb powder sugar
Place margarine in microwave until melted add other ingredients and mix.
That one is like a reese cup filling or peanut butter easter eggs.
Newtodecorating, I loved your shells!!! They are so vibrant and realistic!! I may have to try those out myself. And thanks for the filling recipes, too. I love the reese's cup one!!!
Tanya
Will they just pop out when they are nice and dry?
yep...just turn it over and tap on the counter and they will pop right out! If they give you any problem, just twist it like you would an ice cube tray.
Also.. I think Wilton mentioned to refrigerate the molds for approx 7 mins to set. However, I found by putting it in the freezer, it cuts that time in half and the molds are solid and set.
Also, I purchased the oil based Wilton Candy colors to create a variety of different colored chocolates too. I think if you use alcholol based colors it will seize up. (I believe I read that somewhere).
I love them. Have fun!
