When faced with this challenge, I would start by finding out some things about her. Like favorite color, sport?, hobby, animal, teen idol, etc. Things about her or what she's into. Just take it from there.

Melone1976...I agree, it's much harder when someone says "do anything"...you have nothing to go on! Try and get "something" out of her and then the ideas will start flowing.

I agree with Kiddiekakes abou the colors. Retro style is in now so you could try that theme, maybe some psychadelic flowers and a BCT of a Volkswagon beetle...? Or I would ask the mom what type of things the 13 yr old has in her room. When I was 13, New Kids on the Block were popular so every wall was covered in NKOTB posters... maybe she loves a particular group. Maybe she's into a certain sport or instrument? Or maybe she's a girly-girl and would love a frilly pink cake with flowers? Or maybe she's a Harry Potter fan... the list could go on and on with a 13 yr old. The mom needs to give you something to work with, unless you know the birthday girl really well... If she wants a 1/2 sheet, I think a BCT would work really well.

My 13-year old niece is into cheerleading and loves anything with bright wild colors. She has the colorful beads hanging in her doorway of her bedroom, psychedelic bedspread, the fuzzy pillows, etc. This sounds strange but maybe you could check out the bedroom section of Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. and find a cool print to replicate. They have fun teen prints, shaped pillows, etc. Just a thought.

Wew you all have such good ideas. I know she's in volleyball but I didn't get the impression that she wanted that theme at all. I like the bright color ideas. I love the volkswagon one I think that would be so cute. I'll keep brainstorming and see if anything else pops up.
