My daughter wanted an Ariel birthday (it's today) so I designed this cake kind of as I went. I had a vague photo of what I wanted in my mind, but, that didn't quite work. This is the second cake. the first one, well, the top layer split in half around midnight last night so I had to bake a whole new top layer, and I made it smaller this time, so i didn't have room for the sea anenomie that was on the original one. But I think I like this version better anyway, so it all worked out for the best. I also learned that candy shells (and other candy made from candy melts) are HEAVY. I thought the regular sucker sticks would be adequate to support the top layer. There are dowel rods in there now. That was part of what led to the fall of the first cake. ANyway. Here is the finished product. I just had to share icon_smile.gif

Thanks. It was definitely a stressful project, but well worth the effort (and a learning experience to boot). I'd have had more time to work on it if I hadn't volunteered to do two cakes for our church's cake walk they are having today as well. Those were just basic character cakes, so they went fairly quickly, but it meant I couldn't start on this one till after 5pm yesterday. She is definitely very jazzed w/the cake (and my husband's co-workers are very happy to take the disaster layer of the cake. I told him, there is nothing wrong w/the cake itself. Other than it's not presentable. They don't care. LOL).

Thanks. I just posted several views of this cake in my photos. Now I'm working on the next one! LOL. My youngest will be 3 y/o in a few weeks, so we are doing a Cinderella princess party and I'm designing a castle cake for that party in a few weeks. I have google images on my other screen.
