Bad bad Hubby!! LOL I am just teasing.

Well, I am not sure exactly, I have one that I can clip on the rack, so I would clip it on the underside of the top rack, in the center of the oven. Did that sound right?

If they aren't too expensive, I might go ahead and buy another one, then you could put one in the back and one in front. But I don't really think that would be necessary, cause the center of the oven is where you want to know the temperature exactly, cause that is where you should ideally place your cakes. I do know that cooking other things and multiple items would not all be able to be exactly centered in the oven, but I would think the center oven reading would be the most precise.

Hopefully more seasoned bakers will have more direction....

Hope it helped a little.

Thanks Leslie,

I think that makes sence, and i can't ask my hubby for a new oven as this one is only 6 months old and it cost like 1000 euro's. So that would be a no no.

I thought two thermometers because i think my oven gets hotter in the back. I notice when i bake cookies that the ones in the back are darker faster.

Well off too happy baking. icon_smile.gif

Set your oven to a desired temp. Place your thermometer in the center of the oven. If it is over your set temp you will need to subtract that amount from your recipe temp. If it is under you will have to add that amount to the recipe temp. This might work, it is the same way you calibrate a candy thermometer. Hope it helps.

All ovens seem to have a "hot" spot. the best thing to do is to rotate your baking about 1/2 way through.

We do that in school ALL the time! and our cakes come out almost dome free!

First of all, place it in the center of your oven and check it there. That is supposed to be the 'sweet spot'.

As for caduchi's cookies getting too well done in the back of the oven, it also depends on how far away your pan is from the back oven wall. The idea is to allow 2 inches between the pan and the oven wall to avoid 'over cooking'. Since I have a small oven, I have to be REALLY careful as to how big a pan I use.
