i have gotton some other books from the library that i had liked but can't remeber the names, but i just got another book that i just love, i usely copy the pages that i wanted to keep to remember the steps to some cake decoration idea but in the book i love it all i might go out and buy it instead of copying the pages cause i love the whole book, it's called "Wedding cakes you can make" by dede wilson. it's everthing you need to know about making a wedding cake from start to finish it's great has lots of charts like cake size chart, pan size chart, flavor combination chart, syrup, filling, and frosting amount chart, this book is great...... i hope you check it out if you havn't yet

take care shaddi

I am a fan of the Colette Peters' books. Some of her cakes are, well, "out there" but they challenge me to try new things!

..yes, I find them easy to follow but if someone is just starting out, then it might be a little tough. I think her books assume you have the basics under your belt, so she doesn't go into great details in explaining the basics.

I love alot of the old Wilton books. I've gotten quite a few of them off ebay. I have this huge book called Cakes & cake Decorating By Angela, Nilsen, Sarah Maxwell, and Janet Murfitt. I love it. There are alot of great recipes and pictures.

HEY Blair.....I jus got Toba's "The Well Decorated Cake" today......after my month long wait for mail.
I haven't even opened it up yet, but if you recommend it, it's gotta be good. I've seen how great your cakes are. thumbs_up.gif

Toba Garrett, definitely!!! Her recipes are awesome and her instructions are easy to follow. I always got the impression from Collette Peter's that she really didn't want you to make her cakes. She wants you to look at them and admire them, but she never goes into enough detail to make duplicating them easy. I also love Toba's cookie decorating book. Both of her books are must-haves!

I have both The Cake Mix Doctor and her chocolate cake mix book. I have found they give me ideas on how to doctor a cake mix to improve the taste and texture. I have found that the recipes work and taste good. I like them myself. And, yes, I can also make from scratch. icon_biggrin.gif
