Our church is holding a 85th BD party for our Founding Pastor. He is now home from Kenya,Africa where he has a pastorial traning school and teaches, houses and feeds 60 Pastors at a time in Africa. He also helps in MANY other areas over there. Like orphans, hospitals, and also getting a TV station to air christian broadcasting. Just to name a few. He never takes credit for this stuff but gives God the credit (which is right) but We wanted to celebrate Africa with him. I need to feed about 175 people and was just asked to do it lastnight. And Africa is the theme. Any Ideas? or suggestions? I want it to be nice but nothing OVERLY fancy. Thanks a bunch.

why not do an african saffari type theme. You can do a pride of lions sitting around a watering hole. With a man sitting there with his bible. hope that makes sense.

How about doing animal print on the edges or sides? Maybe add some fondant animals like susanmm23 said. Or Disney's Animal Kingdom Tree of Life comes to mind. Maybe you could do a BCT of that. icon_smile.gif

How about doing a book cake....to resemble the bible and on one half maybe his favorite verse/scripture and the other half could be related to Africa....

Or...do a double layer sheet cake, trimmed in all things Africa and a half ball cake on top decorated to look like the globe...with that part of the country facing the top...make a small African flag from fondant, on a toothpick and insert that right where Africa is on the map..

Just tosing some ideas around! HTH!!

You guys are so much help! I knew I could get some creative ideas from you. Thank you. What about one 15x18 and one 11x15 set at a slikght angle on top of it( like a present arangement cake. Then a 1/2 ball on that for the world. Decorate the bottom colors that are Africanish and the second with animals on it. ???

What about a cross or bible draped in the kenya flag made from fondant? Although I'm not how hard it would be to get the details of the flag...

This might be silly but what about doing a brown basket weave cake? Baskets are a major item in Africa. You could make some beads out of MMF & hang them off the sides of the basket. You could make MMF fruit etc to put in the basket. You could also make a blanket w/ MMF or BC. I can see this in mind! With all the earth tone colors mixed in with it. I love earth tone colors. Just an idea~ icon_smile.gif
