I saw an advertisement on cc for this printer. I went to the website and the price was very reasonable. Has anyone purchased the Tasty Foto Art Printer and supplies? How did you like it and is it worth the money? How does it work, do you connect it to your computer and print from there?

Thanks for any info, or suggestions.

Hi Grandma Sweetie Pie...

For edible imaging, all you'll need is a Canon Bubble Jet printer which is what most of the suppliers of edible imaging printers sell. The iP1500 (2 cartridge) is about $50 and the iP3000 (4 cartridge) is usually between $80 and $90

I bought mine from Amazon.com but I think someone else here got a good deal at Newegg too. You can even buy on eBay as long as the printer is new and not refurbished.

Thanks! Thanks! For all of your information. I'm currently looking for a printer and when I went to photofrost, I couldn't tell what brand the printer was from the website. I was thinking maybe I can get just a canon printer. Thanks again!

No...the 1600 won't work. The ink cartridges aren't compatible. You'll want to look for printers that take BCI style cartridges.

I bought my edible ink printer system from ebay and I love it. It wasn't refrubished. It was brand new and came with frosting sheets, edible ink, and cd's full of clipart.

I don't think I would use a printer for icing images very often. Would I have to worry about the printer cartridges drying up, like on my regular printer? Is there a way to "keep" the cartridges so they don't dry up when I need them?

I have been really happy with my ip3000. I got it as a birthday present. The printer was purchased at our local Office Depot. I think it was around 80.00. My other supplies were ordered from Kopycake...best frosting sheets I have ever used!

The bad news is that edible inks will dry up much faster than the inks you normally find in printer cartridges. To keep them from drying out in between long periods of unuse, cap them and store them (upright) in a ziploc bag and then in an airtight container. Clean the print head really well too or the ink left in the nozzles will dry up and clog.

Lisa, thanks for answering my other 20 million questions!! I was looking at the Canon site just now trying to decide which to order. You use the 3000, is that better picture quality than the 1500 because it can hold 4 cartridges?

TIA,
Tanya

I use an i-350 that I bought a while ago. It's like the 1500. There really isn't going to be much difference in the quality between the 1500 and the 3000 (none that I've ever noticed). The biggest difference is the amount of ink. The 1500 only has 2 cartridges (black and a tri-color) while the 3000 will have 4 with each color having its own. The cartridges cost more for the 3000 but you'll have more ink and they're easier to refill.

The quality of an edible image will have more to do with the quality of the ink and frosting/icing sheets than the printer. I only use kopykake supplies...IMO they're the best quality. Lucks brand is also good. The quality of the image will also depend on the printer settings you use when printing an image. I always use the best setting which uses more ink but the images look great.

Just as an example, if you print one high-quality image a day, supplies for the 1500 will last you about a month depending on the amount of color and size of the images you're printing.

If I were to buy today I'd purchase these items:

Canon iP3000 -I'd buy new off eBay or from amazon.com (Usually free shipping and no tax).

and all of these items from kopykake:

Edible Ink Cartridges
Cleaning Cartridges
Refill Kit
Frosting Sheets -The standard 10"x7.5" sheets. If you need shaped ones (cost the same but you end up with less), you can cut them out after printing and use the leftover pieces for another project (stamping, coloring or printing on (if large enough).
