I just wanted to tell you guys about the results on the State Fair of VA. I had nothing go right for my cake but it turned out ok. I did get 3rd so it must have been better than I though. Of course we are our own worst critics here.
I started out planning to do a bushel of apples, like the bushel of crabs on here. I was planning to do it in buttercreme. but like I said nothing happened the way I had been planning for it to happen. 
This is what I ended up with. 
Just a word to the wise, DO NOT TRY BASKETWEAVE AT 1AM! 
It didn't turn out too well. And I think, I do a pretty good job on basketweave. All of the other ones in my pics with Basketweave look ok. It may have just been the whole 1AM thing.
Sorry for rambling on.
But hey, I at least placed!!!!

Congrats! You should be proud. The apples are fantastic, so are the leaves. I am planning on making a basket of leaves for a fundraiser, but I would love to add some apples. Could you possibly share the directions? Thanks.
bulldog, I would love to share the directions except I just started rolling the fondant into small balls and it just kind of happened. I will try. I will be able to post it tomorrow or Monday morning after the kids get on the bus! When is this fundraise cake due for you?
