Decorating By lastingmoments Updated 23 Sep 2005 , 1:11am by lastingmoments
How do I know when I should stop added suger....should it feel like fondant or tougher...... the wilton recipe says to add one cup at a time....
seems too much im on the 2 cup now....should i keep going
I only used two cups....I may not have even used all two. It should feel like dough, but not too sticky. I think you can always add more if you didn't use enough...but you can't take it away.
What does it feel like?
Leslie
like rubbery fondant...when i pull it springs backs.... so im just keep adding but i added the second cup and its taker longer to work the last bit in ....Im just wondering if im doing it right
Im looking back at old post and they say that it has to cure for 24 hours why is that.......should it spring back like the way i say it does.....
this is for my darth vader helmet... since i failed again and again with fondant Im trying it with gumpaste..... so im hoping i figure this out....
I neeed this for sunday....
Hi,
I cut this segment from the instructions from Nicholas Lodge's site...
Scrape the mixture out of the bowl onto a work surface that has been sprinkled with some of the reserved 1 cup of
powdered sugar. Place the shortening on your hands and knead the paste, adding enough of the reserved powdered sugar to form a soft but not sticky dough. You can check by pinching with your fingers and they should come away clean. Place the finished paste in a zip-top bag, then place the bagged paste in a second bag and seal well.
He says you should let it sit in the refrigerator in a ziplock bag for 24 hours for it to mature...like you were saying....

Hope this helps!!
Leslie
thanks ....ok I think It right ...I pinched and they came away clean ....I have to run errands take my daughter to ballet ....and was hoping I could come back home and try again .....
I already had my saturday cake postponed because of rita I was hoping this party would too!!
So I could make sure that I got it right......
I know you are probably not making that recipe that is on the link, but if you read down through the instructions, it explains what to do.
Unfortunately, I have only made gumpaste once. I bought the different ingredients and mixed it all together like it says and then followed the remaining instructions from what I sent you. I haven't tried to use it yet. Hopefully, more experienced members will be able to advise you better. I just wanted to catch you before you added too much sugar. LOL
I hope I helped, at least a little....
Sorry I don't have that much experience with it....I know you must be frustrated.
Leslie
it ok thank you for all the help....I was in the middle of making it and was like why cant we have virtual CC... so they can see what im doing so i can know if im doing right .... this is my 1st time also so i just rand andgot some stuff from michaels...im using the wilton recipe....I know I heard its pretty bad.....but at this point ill try anything.....
Good Luck with it! I know you will do great and we will see a fantastic picture of Darth Vader!! And you will wonder why you did all the worrying. It happens to me that way ALL the time! he he
I hope you will not be impacted by RITA, I am not good with geography and don't know how far San Antonio is from where they say it is aiming...but BE CAREFUL!!! I pray that it would just break apart and not do ANY damage.
The stuff I got was from Michaels too. I didn't buy the premade mix, but I bought the separate stuff. You get more out of it that way, I think.
Could you IMAGINE if we had virtual CC???? OMG!!! I would never turn off my computer!!! EVERYONE would be watching all the time! LOL It would be fantastic! We would have cheerleading and instructing and everything!
I hope it all works out for you!!
Leslie
yeah... me too i bought the glucose and gumtex just in case I needed more than one batch!!
We should be ok here just lots of rain ...so thats why my bday cake for saturday was postponed
