Hi everyone! I'm out of town tonight and since we are going Whale Watching in the very early morning I'll be off to bed soon. Just wanted to get things started and share this week's cake!

It's for our youngest daughter. She is having a grown up Mermaid themed party. Even the inside is colored...one layer teal and one layer purple. Vanilla cake with lemon curd buttercream filling.

Hope everyone has had a great week!

AOMG, cat, that cake is amazing!!! I love all the details and colors, but especially the fish scales going around the cake sides and the tail!

I just had this simple rosette cake, but have a few orders over the next week. There are lots of theme parties, actually costume parties at the moment. One is my friends birthday in two weeks. Am making her a huge Swiss roll ice cream cake

Cat, what a beautiful cake!  Great job on the scales, starfish and tail.  I bet your daughter just loved it!  And julia, I haven't made a rosette cake yet.  They always look so nice.  One of these days.

Whale watching.... how cool is that?!  I'm "enjoying" my 2nd snow storm of the week, this 1 with a mix of snow & freezing rain, woo hoo.      the mermaid scales & tail are perfect, Cat; beautiful!    @SweetShop5  -  love the nautical theme, clean crisp look.

Last weekend, Dr. Who themed cake for a friend's daughter's 16th ..... not familiar with the show so thanks to everyone else who posts pics for ideas.  buttercream iced, air brushed, gum paste Tardis for the young lady to keep.

Dr. Who themed birthday. Buttercream iced, airbrushed galaxy, gum paste tardis

And a simple Frozen cake for a girl in LOVE with Elsa. Thank you, God, for edible images. Buttercream iced, fondant snowflakes, toy crown.

So thankful for edible images.

And shower to welcome Baby Rose last night.  buttercream iced, fondant/ gum paste topper. First time using a diamond embosser.

Buttercream iced, fondant topper

Have a great weekend, everybody!

I did two this week, both for the same person. She wanted them for her son and daughter, both Rugby League fans and both supporters of local teams, Hull FC and Hull KR, so I did one each with the relevant mascot on and a scoreboard for each team winning with classic scores on them :)

Nothing too spectacular, especially compared to the epic cakes in this thread, but I'm pleased with how they came out. The fondant covering the cake was the best I've done yet, no cracks, tears, nothing. Just nice and smooth :)

A I've had a few weeks off, but got a busy week this week. This is the first of 5. I forgot to take a picture with the ribbons on etc...

What great cakes this week!! LOVE the nautical cake @SweetShop5 but then, I'm an ocean girl!

Thanks for all of the compliments on the cake..I'm especially proud of the tail. It doesn't photograph well...there are so many other colors in it that you can see in person.

We went out whale watching this morning at the crack of dawn and except for freezing to death and feeling nauseated when we hit really choppy waters, it was simply amazing!  We got to see a few grey whales, see grey whale breach, see a Fin Whale (which is rare) and a whole bunch of dolphins. So awesome day even if we are both simply exhausted!

love

Cat

AIn the process of making a silver sequin cake tier! My other tier is going to be rosette styled. Is it possible to do a ganache crumb coat and whipped cream rosettes? Or crusting cream cheese that was posted here?

AI'm impressed with all of this week's creations. It would take a long time to comment on what I liked about each individual's cakes, so I'll simply say "Wow!"

I did a fair amount of baking this week. First up is a big plate of cookies that I made for my mother-in-law. I've heard them referred to Italian or Mexican Wedding Cakes, or Russian Tea Cakes. My husband simply calls them Fat Pills due the quantity of butter in them.

Next is an almond polenta cake that was then liberally doused with lemon syrup. It tasted like a combination of a traditional lemon square and cornbread- sounds odd, but I think it worked. It was good, but I'm not sure if I'd make it again.

And last but not least, I made a couple dozen macarons, but, um, I ate them all before I could take a picture!

We were out of town this weekend, but I dropped off this cake Thursday afternoon while in the car pool line to pick up my daughter from school. The client realized Friday she ordered the cake a week early and wants to order another just like it for this week. She said she found someone to take the first one - not a cheap mistake!

8" vanilla almond cake with buttercream flowers in shades of purple and white.

Hello Everyone!

New to "the club".....finally have something to post! I've been doing lots and lots of just plain cupcakes, but finally got an order for a first birthday cake where I was given a theme/color scheme (Winter 'One'-derland, "Frozen"-type color scheme) and got to do some designing and practice some techniques I haven't used in a while. Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out, although of course I always see areas for improvement. The little "smash" cake was added at the last minute, but I'm pretty happy with that, too.

Sorry only one view in the photo, I'm having some trouble getting all my pictures to download to my computer.....

Great job on all the previously posted cakes!! Everyone's cakes in this thread are always impressive, hope I live up to the group! :) Thanks!

Loving your work people!!!

I had 'allsorts' of fun making this Liquorice Allsorts cake for a client's celebration on Saturday.  I flavoured the black fondant with Lorann Licorice Oil.  I also bought a packet of real liquorice allsorts - but had to enhance the green to match mine, painting over with the gel colour.  I made a few extra shapes with the leftover fondant too.

Pink is Americolour electric pink (with a touch of Wilton Rose Pink).  Green is Americolor electric green (with a touch of Wilton leaf green).

The client ordered it for her mum, who was a huge liquorice fan.  Gotta love groovy grandmas!!!
