AHi everyone I've been asked to do my friends daughters 18th birthday cake that's due next Friday, it's a bed design I'll try to add the image she sent me,I have done lots of research on this and I'm getting really worried on how to do / fix the headboard to the cake , I have done three headboards so far and they are all drying out but I'm concerned that they won't hold up to the job All cut from a template and the pattern put in with an impression mat 1st one is all fondant cut 3mm thick 2nd is all fondant with tylose powder added 5 mm thick 3rd is all fondant with tyylose powder added 5mm thick then I've put a row of cocktail stickers in 2" from the bottom straight across it hoping these will help to hold it. But they don't seem to be holding very well.

My fears are getting it to stick to the cake, will the headboard crack .im now thinking should I use a cake card and attach the fondant to that but how would I get that to stick? Fingers crossed someone can can help me

If you are covering the cake in fondant, I would just stick it on with melted chocolate melts...dries quick I don't see why it should crack it should be dry when you put it on. :)

I was going to say the same as Savannah - just make sure you use the cheap baking chocolate and not real chocolate.

The cheap baking chocolate sets as quick as lightening so you can pretty much put it on the fondant cake and press the bedhead against it using something stiff, flat and bigger than your bedhead (gently but firmly) and the cheap stuff will pretty much set straight away.

If you use nice chocolate - especially since you will probably use white? then it will set soft and I wouldn't trust it to hold the bedhead in place.

I would also go with your bedhead that has tylose in it, no one will be likely to eat it anyway and seeing as you made it you may aswell use the stronger one.

Let us know how you go :-)

you could always put some reinforcing pieces on the back of your headboard, just like in real life woodworking.  It is an adorable cake design, good luck.

AThank you so much for replying everyone , it's a week tomorrow that I made the first two head boards I've looked at them the last few days and they still seem quite fragile tiny bit bendy , that was my reason for making the third one yesterday , I will be covering the cake in fondant would you allow time for that fondant to dry out before trying to attach the head board? I've never used chocolate to attach anything is it just the White chocolate in the baking aisle at the supermarket eg Tesco own brand ? Do I melt it down ,place it in a icing bag and pip it on then attach ? Do you think it will be ok to travel with after it's been attached ? Thank you so much,

I've always just stuck them on with royal. Never had a problem.

And don't fuss with a piping bag just smear it on with a pallette knife. Gorgeous cake !
