Maybe mean on my part, sorry... I can be wicked. But.... saw this cake and really wanted to know, what was it supposed to be (for 2 year old female)?
What the heck is it? My daughter speculated that it might be the house in the mickey Mouse Clubhouse show because of the two button dots, but we looked it up and there's no resemblance.
LOL. The mother made it for her 2 year old daughter. I too, cannot identify what the heck it was supposed to be, but my baby is 24, so I thought I was just out of the "cartoon" loop??? Like some strange "ink blot" test, I was hoping someone would known what it was....

That has to be it, though. The thing on the top, the two dots, and the side things that look like handles...And the attempt at red icing that sadly fell short of an actual red and ended up more like the color of a pallid kidney.

I agree with the ones saying that the kid probably loved it. Anytime someone puts in an effort to make someone else feel special and loved is a beautiful moment - not one to be scoffed at.
I hope that the OP is not a friend of the person who made the cake as this would make you a very poor friend indeed.
I hope that the Mummy or Daddy who made it and no doubt put a lot of love into that cake never become members of this site and see this post as they would be crushed.
but most of all I hope that the Mummy and Daddy keep trying their hardest to make their little ones day better by spending hours making a cake that is seen in their child's eye as perfect. Good on you parents - job well done.

Yup. This was my position. You don't walk up to someone's hard work/ art and, "What is that supposed to be?" No intent to slam anyone, just wanted an eye to see "what" it was. No way I was going to ask.....

And to Bubs1... I am a GREAT friend because I didn't say a word, and as a forum, all I asked is "What is it?". In the reality of cakecentral, it IS an ugly cake. On the kitchen table of a home party for a two year old... it rocked.

Defend yourself all you like but it is laughable that you would call yourself a GREAT friend because you said nothing to their face but set them up for public ridicule behind their back. You did not just ask what it was you flat out called it an ugly cake. Any decent friend would see only the beauty in what they did for their child not the failure to 'perfect' the cake. Great Friend indeed!

"Public" ridicule would require that you can identify the baker, mom, dad, child, country, state, city---- something. So it is, at worst, anonymous ridicule. And we all love cake wrecks... those are real people too.

Cake wrecks is of professional bakers cakes only - cakes that people were paid to bake, not of home bakers. Sorry that you didn't take it well that not everyone thinks what you did to your so called friend is right.
If your friend stumbles on this post by accident I assure you that they would feel ridiculed by you. Next time maybe you should think twice before doing something similar.

I just can't get anyone, and I mean anyone. interested in my fondant - lace - gumpaste flower cakes. So I carry on making big fat fluffy swiss meringue buttercream messes and everyone's happy. One's man treasure is another mans trash.....who said that anyhow? comedian George Carlin.
Now take a look at this, I'm a dang fool that decorates like a mangy blind sasquatch some days. Be danged if a really good decorator, with a great eye, didn't catch that one of my holly leaves is upside down. Can you beat that........sasquatch I'm telling you........and It's pretty funny. 
I'm going to get a set of those plunger cutters some day, so that won't happen again, but dang!!!!

@MBalaska, your cakes are neat and that`s very important.
The mother of a 2 year old is proud that she made that cake maybe that`s why she posted that picture.
Maybe she is a person who doesn`t decorate cakes at all and this was one and only time she tried something.
I am just saying that because I remember my self a year ago when I first came here with my "ugly" cakes. I was so proud that I made them, it is now I realized that they were unprofessionally decorated and I was naive.
I'm not much of a decorator as compared to the incredible cakers we see here. It's all I can do to ice a smooth cake and pipe a border. But I can sure bake! @MBalaska, there is a niche market for those custom cakes. But hobby bakers are the ones who know how to find fun in the sometimes daily chore of life. Thank you for sharing that fun with us.
An ugly cake is an ugly cake. As professionals, we recognize them for what they are. And calling them "ugly" isn't a reflection on the baker or the situation - - it is what it is.
As Natka81 said, we all have photos of cakes we did years ago that we'd like to forget because some of them definitely belong in the "ugly" category. That doesn't mean we weren't proud of them at the time. My daughter's first birthday cake was a true labor of love since it was one of the first cakes I spent any time on. I was so proud of it. She certainly didn't care that I spent 2 hours making elephants out of marshmallows or attaching ribbons to them. I see photos of it now and all I remember is how I felt about it at the time. Not that I would ever dream of posting it anywhere, but there you are.
No one is minimizing the effort put into making it. No one is minimizing the love and care behind it. And if the mom who made it ever happens to see any of the comments here, I don't think she'll take offense.
