Hi all, only 3 more days till xmas and I want to make a hemisphere cake to decorate as an igloo xmas theme, but have no idea how long to cook it for. It's a fruit cake (of course) of 6" and I only have one 6" pan so cannot do the full sphere cooking instructions as per the book. Any advice re lining covering and baking times for hemisphere fruit cakes will be much appreciated . Thank you and Merry Xmas. :D

i don't know but i would suggest placing a piece of foil folded like this one it it so it can bake from the inside better -- in the picture i'm holding one and there's one already in the pan -- it slides out of the cake real easy after baking --

just fold up the aluminum foil into 3-4 thicknesses and cut one end in half about an inch up then fold the flaps in opposite directions so it will stand up --

Many thanks K8memphis. It's only a 6" pan - it's a hemisphere so it's only the timing that I am particularly interested in. Thanks for the foil tip though. Not sure if that would work with fruit cake though ! I basically baked the 6" hemisphere for the timing stated between a 5" round and a 6" round and this seems to have worked. I layered inside with greaseproof paper and outside with newspaper and a greaseproof paper lid on it. Fingers crossed that it tastes good. Thanks again for the advice though.
