Hi Ladies,

My gumpaste is fading within hours.  It's not in direct, hell it's only in my kitchen for a few hours before being stored in a loose lid box in a cupboard.

I've used satin ice paste and americolour gels, small amount of corn flour (I think you guys call it starch) and a bit of Kremelta (crisco)

Pics are quite true to colour, about 15 hours from the first to the second.  Colours are completely washed out on the body and dress.  I know there are issues with purple.

Firstly your little figure is so cute and lovely. I use Squires Kitchen gumpaste and lately Platinum which is gorgeous to work with but too pricey for me.

I've never had colour fade like that and I use tubes of cheap FC from supermarket to colour the paste a pale shade of what I want and use dusts to bring it alive (or cocoa powder for flesh tones).

What you show is the kind of fade i'd expect to see from sitting in sunlight.

How about tinting it darker than what you want the colour to be now you know that your materials not your skill are to blame

.(I never use the cornstarch unless I want a pale colour, just shortening for ease of working)

Thanks for that.  We are a little more limited on brands over here.  I'll give the petal dust option a go and be sure to start the colour off more intense.

She looks a bit like a fish so I'm going to add more hair and perhaps a nose.

I think she is cute..mermaid rather than fishy? Be positive.x

If you really want realism you can get faces (generic)

There is a great site called cakes du soleil which has...or uses a co that supplies gumpaste "faces".

Either way the cakes and tutorials are lovely x
