I have an order of a Giant Cupcake cake for next week. I dont have a Pan and I really don't want to spend so much money on Wilton Pan. Do you think it is good idea to use an ordinary pan and carve the cupcake out of it?

I love my giant cupcake pan, and have made many cakes from it. I personally think it's worth buying it, but if you think you're not going to make any more giant cupcakes in the future, then I say just carve it.

P.S. I don't like the Wilton Cupcake pan, I personally like the giant silicone mold better (from looking online it's cheaper than the Wilton too)

AI love my Wilton Giant Cupcake pan! I've used it to make giant cupcake cakes, a flower pot cake, a Starbucks frappe cake... Very versatile! :) i think you can even use it to make a barn and a mushroom cake...

I do like my giant cupcake pan because you can make a super nice candy melt shell in the bottom which is always fun.  But if you don't want the expense then just carve..it's pretty straight forward and depending on how you are frosting the top - it's pretty forgiving.  Just an FYI...if you do buy the pan, personally I like to bake the top and bottom separately because I feel the top always bakes quicker than the bottom and use a flower nail in the bottom part.

:)

AI have a silicone cupcake pan and it's the best and so much easier to use than the metal one. Also, the silicone one the top and bottom are separate and not joined like the Wilton pan. I also find it easier to remove the cake from the silicone. I use the bottom silicone part to also make a chocolate base for the giant cupcake. It gives it such a smooth look and who can say no to a chocolate base. Heres are a few pictures of the giant cupcakes I've made using the silicone. http://www.cakecentral.com/g/i/3304631/cupcake-cakes/ http://www.cakecentral.com/g/i/3305750/a/3351158/cupcake-cakes/ http://www.cakecentral.com/g/i/3305754/a/3351158/cupcake-cakes/ You can buy them online for a reasonable price as well. Good luck.

I don't know what I'd do without my silicon mould. it is simply wonderful! i have tried to carve the shape several times and it can be stressful at times.

everyone has their own preference though.

OK, I'll be the dissenting view on this one.  I have bought these types of "unitasker" pans before and I wind up giving them away or they just sit and collect dust.  I say just carve it and don't waste the money on the pan.  If you can carve a cake, you can make any shape cake you want.
