I have seen several cakes that have images of characters (particularly Elsa on "Frozen" cakes) That look like they have a thick cut-out gum paste background with a "painted on" character, but it looks too perfect, like it may be an edible image. Is there a product out there pre-sold in this fashion, or is this the work of the baker? I appreciate any input, I just noticed it on more and more cakes and I am intrigued! TIA!

You can get edible images, attach them to fondant or gumpaste and then cut them out. The frozen cakes that I've seen all have the edible images, they're not hand drawn.  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHPUR6W/?tag=cakecentral-20

Remember that you can't legally sell cake with trademarked images on them unless you have a license from Disney!

That's what I figured, and I know about those licenses! I just happened to see a bunch popping up with many different cakes and I was curious. It looks so pretty! Very clean. Thank you!

I would suggest you take a look at the Silhouettes if you like that look.  It is an electronic cutter, but what is nice about that, if you have an edible printer, the software from the Silhouette will work with your edible printer to print out the design and then the software will tell the silhouette exactly where to cut so that it cuts a perfect cutout of what you printed!

My pleasure!  We have a new Silhouette coming out next week!  I get to have a peak today!!

We recommend getting an edible printer only if you are going to use it at least 2-3 times per month, so as long as you can commit to that go for it!!!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Have you tried DECOgel yet?

I am not at the point yet Debbie, though I plan to be! I don't get that many orders for the edible images yet - I have had maybe 3 or 4 in the past YEAR. It's definitely in the back of my mind though! I was looking at the DECOgel earlier and yes... I WANT SOME! :) I plan on getting some soon!

Yeah...then dont buy one yet!  Here is a coupon code you can use between now and the 11th of this month for 5% off.  You can use it for your DECOgel!  Use coupon code DECOTHREAD when checking out!  And yes! Anyone can use this, however it is not valid with any other offers!  BUT if you use it, you have to send us a picture of what you make and like us on facebook!!! Enjoy!
