Get in touch with venues in your area since they refer a lot of brides to vendors. If there's a wedding networking group in your area, go to it and schmooze the venues. Facebook  pages aren't so great for wedding cake marketing specifically, but you have to have one so that if a bride does look you up she can find you. Make sure your website looks good...What else...You might want to look into doing a wedding show even though they're expensive, and use the opportunity to talk to a bunch of other vendors.

Maybe visit florists and party places in your area with cake samples, business cards and beautiful pictures of your work so  they could recommend you to folks who are looking.  Maybe they let you put your business cards or even a sample binder somewhere.  Is there a busy farmer's market near you?  I've never done one but some on CC say they've gotten good wedding business from them.  Use the search bar and enter farmers market.  Lots of good second hand experience!  Good luck!

I suggest making an investment in some wedding advertising.  It's easy to find brides. There are many small bridal events (and networking events) you could display and sample at that are free or low cost.  It's true that once you start a business, advertisers come out of the woodwork wanting your money, but there is value in some of it.  Ask other successful decorators where they spend their advertising $$, they'll tell you, I bet.  One caveat, make sure your cake decorating and baking is ready for prime time, or it will be wasted.  I started out with a huge bridal show and booked probably 20 cakes from it. My plan was to do the bridal fair and if I could book off it, I could afford my own shop.  ( I was renting commercial kitchen space).  The magazine that sponsored the bridal fair asked me to create a cake for their editorial pages (twice a year for 2 years now).  That's a full page of advertising that I don't pay a cent for.

Also, you don't have to be an advertiser to attend some of the networking events put on by these organizations.  I have made monthly payments for any larger investments.

Don't be afraid to take the plunge. Bridal advertising is very targeted. Good luck!

thanks for the tips Leta.  I've been wanting to do a bridal show for awhile now....for some reason the idea of it makes me nervous. LOL
