AOkay so I have to make a cake for this weekend that looks like a Jell-O shot, but is made out of cake...not jello! It's going to be a candy corn Jell-O shot cake. It's supposed to look like this picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Maybe someone else will chime in but maybe you could cover the colors with fondant and then use gelatin around the sides to give a glass look? I think isomalt would be difficult to work with for this.
Maybe you could ice the outside of the cake in the different colours using a crusting buttercream. Let it crust really well then go over the whole lot with piping gel to give it a shine.
Make it as a carved extended tier cake and cover it with panels of fondant in the appropriate colors. Then paint it with corn syrup mixed with vodka (the alcohol evaporates out) to make it shiny. A ring of isomalt would probably work best for the clear rim look, but you could probably just do a ring of lighter yellow gumpaste on top.
AThis is kind of how I thought I'd do it. I just wasn't sure how to make it shiny and how to do the top rim of the cup. I will definitely try that. Thank you SO much.
Brushing a small amount of clear piping gel on your fondant should work without making your fondant gummy. Just make sure you let the fondant dry first.
