Cotton and Crumbs has a cake/cupcake set-up that shows a 3 tier cake on the very top of a cupcake stand. It looks like they perhaps used 4x6x8 tiers. I have a bride that wants that same set-up but she wants a larger cake-6x8x10. Would you consider doing a cake that size on the top of a cupcake stand? I have searched for stands that would be suitable/study enough but I am just not certain that it is even a good idea to attempt a set-up like this.Your opinions? Have you ever done something like it and if so, where to get a stand that would work? Thank you!!
I don't know about that, the cupcake place that I used to work at had a 8" minimum cake size for the tops of all their cupcake stands. They were used manly as cutting cakes along with a sufficient amount of cupcakes for their guests
You might find one but I personally have never seen one.
I had a look at their site, wow, they do lovely work. Their stands look custom made, beautiful displays.

I would want something really secure to handle the tiers sizes, maybe you could make your own.
Check out a few of the DIY cake and cupcake stands sites, that might give you a few ideas.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.
Are you sure the "cake" on top of the stand isn't a dummy for two of the tiers?
Or maybe you can convince your bride to use a dummy for two of her tiers?
AMy cupcake stand is a custom 5 tier stand made from wood - that is the only cupcake stand I would trust to hold up a 3 tier cake. Most online are made from cardboard, which won't cut it. The cake would be too heavy.
I have made several 2 tier cakes for the top of the stand, never a 3 tier. The top tier is usually just to cut for pictures so I haven't had a need to make a 3 tier cake when I have a cupcake order.
Now, that being said, I would do it if I used my stand. But only then.
one of these

and two of these

then the cupcake stand would have to have a hole in the middle to thread onto the acrylic tube and of course the bottom plate would need to be bigger than the plate the cake sits on so it is stable

Hi K8 nice call and much cheaper!
This probably isn't what the OP was looking for but I would love to try and make it and I'm always in the Dollar Store
DIY Mirror stand
i love those acrylic pieces -- have so many different applications and like you said, cheaper -- but yes mirrored stands are really cool too -- diy all the way
I think there was a thread on here not so long ago, someone purchased cupcake stand from efavormart and complaint that it was so unstable and fell.
Why not email Cotton and Crumbs and asked them what they used? It would be worth a try. Just make it clear where you are and that you can no way compete with them. You never know, I've done that with several top decorators in the US and they do answer.
AI had a customer bring me that photo in to do something similar. But it was a 6-8" and mini cupcakes. It was quite nervewracking putting the 2 tier on top and I would hate to think what it would be like with a 6-8-10" since the weight is pretty much doubled. My 2 real tiers stood fine - I used a Classikool platinum stand which is what hers appears to be. But I would try and get the bride to consider having the 10" as a dummy to be honest.
Many thanks to everyone who responded to my original query- I have been remiss in not thanking you all sooner. But more help is needed-I purchased an acrylic 6 tier stand from efavormart like the picture and it does not work! The center posts will not stay tight or straight-it looks comical the way each plate leans this way and that (have to find the humor in it or I might cry). Is there a trick to assembling
these things??? Thanks again for all the help!
Ano, idk -- mine fit nice & tight & straight -- you would need to have a really large plate on the bottom to make this work anyhow or it will not stand up if they fit in the first place
Abut i don't use them all stacked up in multiples -- the ones i get are made to use a top & bottom plate separated by the tube -- so one large plate sits on the table as the base and the other plate holds the cake -- they don't stack
Awilton has a stand that will stack up -- i think it's called 'lacey cake stand' if memory serves --
no, this is the one i meant -- not even sure if they sell it anymore

i think this one is the one they sell now

Thanks K8 and cazza1 for your input! I took a look at the Wilton stand and the "Cake Stackers"- I don't think they are out of line for price. I am looking at purchasing a set-up similar to those-anybody have any different cupcake tower set-ups that you love and would like to share? Ironically enough, the first Wilton cake stand you mentioned K8, I actually just used this past weekend to set-up a 50th anniversary cake for a former cake decorator (I was honored she would entrust her special cake to me!). She had used the stand for years and now felt justified painting it gold for her own party! I sometimes have a problem with some of the quality and construction of Wilton products but this one seems to have lasted many years!
it was well made -- the lacy part could be disguised in a lot of different ways -- the new one is sleeker less froofroo -- and the old one you could buy extra parts/plates/feet there were two different length pillars plus a special arm where you could have four cakes on the bottom -- don't know about the new one if you can buy parts --
and a big thanks to you for honoring the older generation and appreciating vintage caking/cakers --
i hope you find a good secure setup that works out phenomenally for you! would love to see a picture

The customer wanted a gold look for 50th but with a snowflake look because their anniversary is actually in Dec. but they celebrated early. She only needed me to use part of the stand.
