Ahi there! I have a question about how to drape fondant. My son really wants this ghost cake for his birthday, but I am a bc girl. I rarely cover anything in fondant, let alone make beautiful drapes/ruffles at the bottom. Can someone please describe the steps and process I would take to make my ghost look like the one in the photo I've attached? Thank you so much. I imagine that would be the easiest thing you could ever do with fondant - Work out what size fondant you need to cover the cake, add a few inches, roll the fondant out, centre it over your cake and drape it over. I would smooth/stick/press it on over the head area firmly and only gently down the rest of the cake then fold it as desired at the bottom. Once you have the draping at the bottom sorted go back over the cake and smooth it more firmly where you can.

I would probably dampen the bottom display board as you get to it so that the fondant at the bottom stays where it should and doesn't twist and pull on the rest of the fondant.

I would also consider making the edges of the fondant thinner that the rest of the fondant so that it doesn't pull heavily on the fondant that is attached to the cake and it will also fold/bend easier for you.

You will want to support it with something like scrunched up paper towel until it dries/sets a bit.

AHi there!

I just finished making the cake for my baby girl! Yay :) i measured and cut the fondant, just enough to cover the cake with a little extra for pleats. I didn't need to trim :) this is one of the cutest cakes i've made and i was surprised at how fairly easy it was! Good luck in making your cake! If you have any questions, let me know! Have fun :)

@mattyeatscakes:  Could you tell me what pan you used for the bottom of the cake?  The size? Thinking of making a quick one for my son's Halloween school party this week. Thanks!!

A@mmhassa2 i used half of the wilton ball pan, and two 6" cakes stacked. Perfect size and shape for this little ghost :) no carving! I used SMBC and chocolate cake. Goodluck and post your cake photo! Gonna be cute! :)

Here it is! I'm a little unhappy with the top of his head. Carving was needed, but I just didn't give myself enough time. But my sweet boy was absolutely in love with it, and all my guests liked it as well. Overall, it turned out cute! Thanks guys for all your help and encouragement!!! :)
