Hi, all. I had no idea I was into cakes until last week when my aunty asked me to make a cake for my grandparents 65th anniversary. I made the 3 tiered cake below (9" bottom) and had a lot of positive feedback. This week I decided to try making a pumpkin spice cake which is also shown below (10" by 5"). I'm basically looking for feedback... can I sell these? Are they worth anything? What would you price these at (I live in a small town in western canada)? Should I just jump right in and try my hands at whatever people throw at me?
The best feedback is when people see your cakes and want you to make them one so listen when people give you positive comments. I was told by a family friend who runs her own business to find somewhere you can order sponges already made and use their prices for the cakes and then add on your fondant for covering and decoration, boards and boxes adn then money on top for your time. Always make sure you are breaking even on the overall cost and are adding extra charge for your time/work. A good idea would be to have a look on facebook for people making and selling cakes from home and compare their prices. Hope this helps :)
My honest feedback would be they are a great cakes and looks like you could be on to something. I would suggest continuing to make cakes for friends and family but not begin to sell cakes just yet. But really, GREAT start! :)
