Yes, thin your color w/a bit of vodka.  No it won't eat thru the fondant.  vodka evaporates very quickly :)

If you have air brush color that is ideal just out of the bottle.  The best way I've found to get a spatter effect is to use an (new) toothbrush:)  Just dip in the color and shake it out.  If you want smaller spatters, then run a comb thru the toothbrush or use you fingers.

AIf you want the paint to look real, you have to use piping gel. That way you are not loosing the 3d effect real paint would give. I just posted 2 different recipes in another post. But basically you mix 1 cup (240ml) liquid with 150g granulated sugar, boil, stir in 2-4 tbsp (depending how thick you want it to be) of cornstarch (premixed with liquid), boil until thick. And add food coloring (only needs small amounts). Cover your work surface well, load a brush with"paint" and swing it over your cake Andy Warhol style - fun!

AI did it with white chocolate melts. The gel food coloring well make the chocolate seize but add a little shortening and it softened back up. I then dipped a spoon in the chocolate and splattered it on the cake. The customer said it was delicious!
