I am making a large Halloween cake with the bottom tier a graveyard scene, middle tier with a funky pumpkin and top tier with a haunted house.  Tiers will be on a pole support/flanges that DH is making for me so that there is a lot of room between the tiers.  The center pole will be make to look like a tree with spiders crawling up from the graveyard, a few on the pumpkin and then invading the house on top.  Halloween trees will be all over made out of grape stems dipped in candy melt.

The only real cake will the the pumpkin tier, so I can make everything ahead of time.  Oh, the pumpkin will be made out of two bunt pans put together.  The hole in the top will be slightly enlarged to allow a can to be placed inside.  Dry ice inside to allow fog to come out of the pumpkin.  The chimney on the house will be removable and a small shot glass or something like that placed inside so smoke can come out of the chimney.  LED lights will be placed throughout the cake.

I am thinking of making a crescent moon with a witch flying to suspend over the house.  This can be made out of gum paste, allowed to dry completely and then painted on.  How do I suspend the moon over the house?  Just a few wires and "glue" it on?  I don't want it to slip and I don't want it too look too cheesy.  If I can make the gum paste thin enough, would like to put an LED behind it to have it glow.

Any and all suggestions would be very appreciated!!

Would a moon like this look too cheesy?  The cake as a whole is creepy/spooky.  This image isn't mine, nor will this be even close to the design, just the moon.  Ideas??

i like big golden harvest moons with witches flying across -- the bigger the better -- i like the picture you found but i'd ditch the tree -- please post a picture of your finished work

Considering that we will have a Blood Moon in two days, a dark orange-ish colored moon would be good.

Do you think it would be okay just sitting on the cake?  Or maybe attached to the back of the house?
