AI'm doing a wedding cake with white fondant. A black satin ribbon will be placed around each tier. Couple things - should I worry about bleeding with the black ribbon on white fondant? Which leads to my next question - how soon could I put the ribbon on the cake? Could I do it the night before or should I wait until I set the cake up at the venue? The cake will be at the venue for 5 hours before the reception starts. My neice is getting married at 1 and the reception doesn't start till 5. I just dont want her walking in to see the cake all black streaks but I have to set it up before the wedding. I could come back between the wedding and the reception but I'd rather leave it and my worries behind. THanks.
AI haven't put any sort of "backing" on the ribbon but I think that's just for BC - I know that bleeds AND stains the ribbon. It will be ok?:eek: I'm so nervous..... aahhhh. :)
AMaybe it's the moisture in the buttercream. The only time you'll get moisture with fondant is if you refrigerate it. If it makes you feel better, pre-measure the ribbon and put it on at the last minute. Doesn't take long to do, I use double sided tape to join both ends of ribbon.
Just to set you mind at ease. Take a scrap piece of fondant and put a scrap piece of ribbon on it, just like it would be on the cake. Leave it for a few hours and see if anything bleeds. I'm betting it won't, but you'll know for sure and be able to relax about it.
