How Long Can I Wait To Put My Fondant Decorations On After I've Covered My Cake?

So I have a cake to decorate this afternoon and I was wondering if I could cover my cake in fondant first and then come back to it a few hours later and finish putting my fondant decorations on the side? The decorations would be made using fresh fondant (not fondant decorations that have already been made and dried) Will the fondant covering the cake be too dry to attach the fondant decorations? I guess what I'm trying to ask is how long can I wait between covering my cake in fondant and decorating it with my fondant pieces?

AYou can decorate your cake right away or you can after a while, it doesn't matter. It the fondant on the cake is dry, use water or gum glue.
