AI am making a volcano sculpture out of RKT that will be hollow inside where the cup for water and dry ice will go. I started making it using a double batch of RKT but it's not enough! I have the bottom part of the volcano molded but I'm wondering if it would be ok if I left the bottom part out overnight and just finished it tomorrow with a fresh double batch of RKT. Can I add the fresh RKT to the bottom part to make the rest of the volcano or should I just start all over with the volcano? Also, when I finish the volcano what should I use on it before the fondant? I want it to look really smooth. Should I use ganache or candy melts?

yes you can add to it -- and i would not proceed until it sat overnight again -- the gelatin needs to reset -- you can smooth it with a microplane before you fondant it -- i have only used modeling chocolate or fondant on my rkt -- but others here use buttercream or ganache --

best to you

ALauren, I just finished a car today made from RKT, covered it in plain old white choc then a thin layer of fondant let that dry then a thicker one on top.

Heres my car, its the first time I've ever used RKT, was really pleased with it.

AThanks k8, I was surprised how easy it was to make, when I got over how sticky it was in the beginning.

i butter my hands like i'm putting on free expensive hand cream -- rkt are fun though huh -- i've made them with vanilla bean before -- i use one less cup of cereal -- always all butter -- we are lovers of fine rkt -- hahahah --

in fact at the french bakery in vegas at the bellagio where the 60 foot chocolate fountain is -- rice krispie treats was their biggest seller for years -- maybe still is --

glad your project is going smoothly -- rice krispie treats for the win!

AYou should try RKT made with melted mars bars..................... OMG you have to make double to account for the 'sampling' lol. I actually just splash a little water on my hands.... how long does the buttered fingers way lasy Kate? do you have to reapply often? with water you need another splash every few touches!

Love the car nanny! It almost seems a shame that someone's gonna eat it! lol :D (that's in the 'things not to say to a baker' thread I know!)

grey - yes a couple applications of butter just till you get them tamed down at first -- till the outside layer of the marshmallows cools off just that little bit -- it's a twofer because your hands look and smell great afterwards :-D ooh don't say melted mars bars -- great idea!
