Looking For Some Opinions On Design...

I have a cake coming up this weekend that I have been given creative license on. It will be a "Dallas" themed (think original TV show - Dallas) 40th birthday party. Kind of a big, glamorous, "Dallas" party.
Anyway - The design is as follows:
Bottom tier - 10" round, white ruffle cake (big, messy ruffles) with silver dusted on the edges
Top tier - 8" round, white fondant with a brown leather belt and large silver belt buckle with "40" on it
Topper - Cowboy hat with a rhinestone hat band and a Texas Star
My question: What color would you make the hat? White, beige, or grey?
I've drawn it up each way and love them all equally.....
AI think a nice beige/tan so it stands out well against all the ruffling and the easily identifiable belt -- what an awesome design
but I'm so in love with a white hat -- maybe with a silver edging around the brim? too un-cowboy? naw I think the beige will work better --
I vote beige
I would go light grey. JR's hat was usually that color but with grey at the hat you will add a bit more color to your cake.
4 votes out of 70 looks -- that's funny -- sounds like commitment issues
but i was thinking about your cake-- i think the '40' belt buckle and the texas star might compete -- could you put the 40 on the star and either put it on the belt or the hat? if you do use both i think one should be smaller --
then i was also thinking i would put a texture on the middle tier so the hat stands out enough as a hat -- so the smooth surfaces are not just duplicated -- kwim?
or i would 'hang' the hat on the side of the cake or put it on an angle on top --
just over thinking for you -- no extra charge
