AI got an email from a lady wanting a dozen spiderman cupcakes, they were pretty basic. I told her $20 No reply Days later (today) I get a text from the same person asking how much for a dozen red velvet no special design just basic. I told her $15. (Mind you, I'm a fairly new to selling my stuff so my prices are on the lower end. There is only ONE bakery in my city and it's gluten free. I am not low balling, I'm really decent pricing. So then she said she would let me know later if she wants them. I say "okay great! Thanks." Two mins later I get a text from her saying "if it's $10 I'll surely place an order." I just told her, it was $15...

I wanted so badly to say "go to walmart. They have cupcakes dirt cheap."

Then it would make it sound like they are dirt. Because well?!

Am I wrong? I said this to her "I'm sorry but they are $15. Everything is home made."

I think your reply was fine.  You're already on the lower end and there's no need to work for anyone for free.  Let her go fishing elsewhere. If she finally bites on your line, make sure that she pays UP FRONT!  If that's not feasible, be prepared to walk away with cupcakes should she balk at delivery.

Less than a dollar a cupcake? No way! Not worth the time and effort at all, even if they all came out of a box. As maybenot already said if she does order be sure she pays first no matter what.

And if you made them for me, I would pay $6/ dozen for 50 dozen (hey, there is a nearby elementary school....).

Don't let anyone dictate your price and to do that for $10... not worth the hassle.

Once had a local police officer offer $8/ hour CASH for my son the master electrician ( and a one hour job, to boot....lol). She was really offended when he ignored her (he thought she was kidding). He then said, I don't even roll over in bed for less than a hundred bucks....

Please respect the time you would spend and sent her to WalMart for defrosted ones.

A I posted this on another thread but it seems relevant here too. Don't let people low ball your prices. Asking you to work for next to nothing is insulting to anyone with a skilled trade.

Don't worry, you don't need her business. I would have actually said, that "I'm pretty sure you can get pre-made cupcakes for your price range at Walmart. I'm sorry, but our cupcakes are custom made fresh for each client, so the price is not negotiable.  Thank you, have a nice day!"

Don't say home-made.  It sounds cheaper and sloppy.  Say Custom, Made from Scratch, or Gourmet.. :)

Start lowering you prices every time a customer tries to talk you down and you'll soon be out of business.....set your prices and stick to them!  If you don't get the order, there will be others......
