I need to make a baby shower pillow cake for 50 people.  I'm planning on using square pans and carve per the tutorial here on CC.  What size pans should I use....10" and 12" or 8" and 12"?   Thank you.

http://www.wilton.com/downloads/paninstructions/2105-0575.pdf

This will at least show what the actual pan yields. If you start with 10" and carve, it is probably the same, or close to using the 10" pillow pan. Wilton says 40 wedding servings, 30 party servings.

Sounds like 8+12 will be plenty.

Looked again, my guess is 8"= 20 party servings/ 30 wedding servings

                                        10"= 30 party servings/ 40 wedding servings

                                        12"= 50 party servings/ 65 wedding servings

BASED ON HOW YOU CARVE IT

So your 8"+12"= 70 party/ 95 wedding

or your 10"+12"= 80 party/ 105 wedding

You can see, the 12" alone is probably exactly what you need. If they want to buy more for "effect", well, just more $$$$ and leftover cake!
