AMy husband 40 the birthday is in September and I'm throwing a jimmy buffet "a pirate looks at 4o" party. I know how i what it to look. I'm currently working on the gum paste and modeling chocolate pirates, chest, parrots and other detailed animals.

How envision is this... I see a large pirate ship fitted with cannons and of course scurvy pirates sitting in blue icing gel to simulate water with a beach style cake covered in crushed up cookie crumbs for sand. And I would like the main pirate to follow a treasure map of all the thins his lost along the way. ie: single life, his dignity in having to pick up feminine products at the store, belief in Santa Claus .etc,etc. but at the his X marks the spot he find all his worldly treasure wife, kids, great job, home.

But I'm scared to death of trying to sculpted this cake. Any helpful tip that you guys would sure be appreciated. I know I need to have the bottom of the boat smaller and graduated up in size. How will this affect stability. I know if asked a lot od questions but any guidance I could get for some for you oh so talented cankers out there would be so appreciated.

Thank you in advance txcakemom2

hmmm, detailed treasure map, beach cake, pirate ship cake, feminine products, santa claus  i think you need to edit this a bit first --

it's keeping the treasure map small enough to convey all that meaning next to a ship -- hey-- you could make the treasure map the top of the cake and it could be sitting 'on the beach'-- with the beach sticking out on one side -- then you could do all the mapping of his life on that-- just make a scaled down pirate ship that sits on the map --

otherwise you need two cakes i think -- one the big ship sitting out in the harbor and the treasure map out of scale sitting closer where you can read all the events of his life --

no i love 'this is your life' cakes -- i like to do them in topsy turvy then i just put all the stuff on there -- which that is an idea for you too -- you could do one tier the pirate ship or one half of a couple tiers the pirate ship -- and just toss all the other things on there --

best to you!
