AHi everyone, I've had to go back to work which means my cakes have gone on the back burner. However I've just been asked to do a Thomas the tank engine cake and after biting off more than I could chew with the Princess Elsa cake I thought I'd ask for advice before even agreeing to do it. I've looked at some photos online & it looks a bit tricky for someone like me, I mean, it looks like the cake needs to be carved, square edges & curved roof etc, then the challenge of covering such a shape & mould the face & all the details. With my minimal skills & working full time I feel I wouldn't be able to give it the time I'd need to practice & make it right... So, is there a really simple way of doing this cake or am I crazy to take it on?

Re. the face, there are lots of moulds available that could make life easier: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0082RAXIM/?tag=cakecentral-20

Regarding the rest, I'm sure there are tutorials out there, so it is really just up to you. Sounds fun though! ;)

Here's a link to a tutorial from How To Cook That. They are always easy to follow and understand, with step by step instructions. It looks a fun cake to do

Here is a pic of my Thomas Tank Cake.  I made my decorations weeks in advance and used buttercream because I figured it would be easier to cover the cake, which it was.

This was for a 2 year old birthday. All buttercream with gumpaste decorations. If you want to ask me any questions you can PM me
