I'm trying to make a R2D2 cake for my boyfriends birthday and I've read many many blogs and came across the infamous WASC cake. I followed the recipe exactly but replaced the almond extract with vanilla extract. I got a burnt cake on the top with cake batter spilling on the sides! I baked it for 20 mins on 300 degrees and another 20 mins on 325 degrees but I took it out after the combined 40 mins because my cake was completely burnt on the top and raw in the middle with spilling cake batter! I need to finish this cake by friday and yesterday was supposed to be my baking day! I'm not one day behind on schedule. Please help!!!!

It's only my second time working with fondant cakes and my first time doing a 3 tier cake. Any tips and trick that will help?

I'm planning to do 3 layers of a 6 inch round cake covered with fondant and a rice crispy head for the R2D2. Using WASC recipe for the cake and buttercream icing to hold it together and marshmallow fondant.

Day 1 will be baking and freezing the cake
Day 2 will be making rice crispy and fondant  (might have to do everything today now )

Day 3, put it all together and decorate!

thanks!
