Hey guys,

I have a bride who is interested in a lace cake with the lace similar to this cake by Cotton and Crumbs: https://www.flickr.com/photos/39615881@N06/6481466041/in/faves-bakingdivaz/. I'm hoping to find a lace mold that is similar in style but I've never purchased one so I'm not sure where to begin. Anything close would be great!

Thanks!

Ali

AI would begin by looking at the Sugarveil , Clair Bowman and Cake Lace silicone mats. The mats are pretty pricey and there is a learning curve to the products by each company. The mats are interchangeable with the products so you may want to read reviews on the products before you purchase. I think the lace on the cake in the pic is real lace and not done from a mat. Hope this helps!

AGlobal sugar art has some very pliable and very lace looking lace molds, though they are pricey: http://www.globalsugarart.com/search.php?q=sugar+dress

Is you want to see a tutorial on how to use them, look up Sugar Dress Lace Mold on YouTube. Either that, or learn the piping technique from Craftsy for about the same price or less.

It looks like real lace! I enlarge the photo and that is what it looks like.I might be wrong.

AYou could use real lace, but if the bride wants something edible then it might be a little costly.

AI have seen on their website when they were asked where they found the lace and it wasn't a mold. As SOledad said, if you enlarge the lace you will see it is real. They also use real ribbon as well on some of their cakes.
