AHi all,

I just got an order for a simple cake for more or less 20 people. Its a gentleman's 100th birthday and what an honor for me . And it's my first ever order, which. I would be paid for :grin:

It would be of two layers, vanilla and chocolate sandwiched with buttercream and frosted with buttercream outside(basket-weave) and on top with a sheet cake , i will cut out a big shape "100" and frost it.

Am confused as of what type of fondant flower i should make, if it was a lady, i have thousands of ideas, since its a male..i was thinking of sunflowers or maybe golden roses just put here and there. OR any other ideas ???

i think with the 100 and the basket weave you have enough going on already--i think i'd do some small signs that say best wishes so it's a basket full of best wishes and maybe just do some very simple understated blossoms dotted around as a filler--

Its you who saves me most of the time ;-D i wanted the base color to be off white or pale yellow. The basket weave the same, the border very light blue and the number 100 , either yellow outlined or filled. Am confused with the best wishes and it has to be in Italian LOL... Guess iI have to leave that idea :( even though its pretty cute... And when you say understated blossoms, its like cherry blossoms right ? ( no , will not even dream of putting daisies LOL ) you meant on the basket weave or just on the bottom borders.

When I said flowers, i wanted to just add about 3 small ones and one medium sized on top... Too girlish ?

i'm picturing a basket weave cake with a 3-d 100 on top made out of cake yes? to me the 100 is the star and is elevated higher than the top of the basket so you want a basket full of something though -- and you already have a 100 --that's two centerpiece creations already so any thing else should be incidental -- just filler -- i'd pipe drop flowers or just make one cut out blossom flowers like individual hydrangeas-- just one cut and done--

i think chocolate roses can be very masculine in the right setting with scroll work but that's a different direction than you're going w/the basket weave

For men's cakes I usually used bachelor buttons.  They are very, very easy to make in b'cream but I've never tried them in gp.
