I recently saw a cake decorator on one of the cake tv shows use dragon's beard candy on a cake. It looks really awesome but this was the first time I have ever heard of it. Looked up tutorials on how to make and it looks really easy! I was just wondering if anyone knows how well it holds up? I have a Luau themed cake to do in June and she wants the bottom tier to look like a hula skirt - they aren't fond of fondant and I'm not too crazy about how it looks in buttercream using the grass tip - so I had a thought that maybe I could use dragon's beard sugar to make the skirt......thoughts? Ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

You can purchase it if you don't have experience with pulled sugar/sugar work, she makes it look very simple in the YouTube video. It seems she's just pulling a round of isomalt through rice flour, I know she works a lot with isomalt though.

I've just started working with it myself but at a very basic level. Cool looking technique! I'd love to see you're results if you give it a try.

You could also make a hula skirt with wafer paper
