Hi! Im MangoLassi and I am addicted to the frosting that is on grocery store cakes.

I cant help it, its full of chemicals and fake foods but I think it taste so yummy=( So I've been doing research on this type of frosting. So far I have found out that,

1) It comes in a tub or a dry mix,

2)It is shortening based,

3) Sams Club might sell it and

4) Due to the chemicals an homemade version will probably never taste the same.

So I've searched around the internet for some recipes. I found a few actually but I only tried 3 today.

First up AllRecipes "Grocery Store Frosting".

2:1 for the Shortening & Butter. Includes salt & water NO milk.

Review - VERY sweet, smooth, slightly greasy(probably because I used Crisco). It also has an "Hefty" feel to it, like it would hold up in the heat. Now that I

have let it sit in the fridge for 20 minutes or so it does taste like the piped frosting on the Grocery store cakes. It picked up the chemical taste from the food coloring too.

Buttercream Dream

2:2 for the Butter & Crisco. Features salted & unsalted butter, and milk..

Review - LIGHT, the least sweet of all 3 frosting's. My mom loved this one! Shes not the biggest fan of the Grocery store frosting as its too sweet for her. Although this did come out lumpy. My first lumpy frosting=( but that was 100% my fault as I mixed up the directions. I will be using this recipe again but I must add the sugar slowly the next time.

Last, Indydebi’s Crisco-Based Buttercream Icing

ALL shortening. Features milk and of course Dreamwhip.

Review: Mmmmmmm! I have been waiting to make this frosting for over an year. I found the Dreamwhip in the pudding section of my grocery store.

The wait was worth it! Initially this tasted sort of like the grocery store frosting but then I added a dash of butter flavoring and WOW I am in love!!

Smooth, creamy, thick, non greasy, and not too sweet. *The frosting needed more milk than called for. Also it crusted pretty fast when some of the frosting dropped on my counter.

I think I may try mixing in some butter instead of having to use butter flavoring BUT I dont want to mess with it right now.

Short Summary:

The allrecipes recipe was very sweet, tasted more so like the piped frosting.

Buttercream Dream was indeed "Dreamy", silky and not too sweet.

Indydebi’s tasted the most like an grocery stores frosting but without the greasiness and chemical aftertaste.

All three frosting's tasted great and reminded me of my beloved Grocery Store Type Frosting but Indydebi’s appealed to me the most. Thank you for reading:D
